I have a canon ip4500, it was a great printer until I started to get white stripes
in printouts and seems to only happen with PGBK. I've tried deep cleaning service, I even took the printhead out and
dip it in hot water as suggested but that did not work. I notice the problem started around the time when I refilled the ink catridges with InkTec's Inks. I've accidentally printed two or 3 times with low ink, does this mean my print head is permanently damaged? How can fix this?

I experienced a similar problem when I purchased generic ink off eBay. I did more deep cleans than I can count on my hand, but it did not help. I did the water soaking treatment until there was no more ink coming out of the printhead, but that only made things a *little* better. I finally figured the ink cartridges were bad, so I replaced them. But my new ink did the same thing. So I did the water soaking treatment again. But this time, I forced air through the printhead and actually saw some of the "ink jets" that weren't blowing bubbles out before (when I would blow) begin to blow bubbles. Test results later proved that some of the ink jets were seriously blocked and blowing helped to free them. I do not believe all the jets are free because I still have faded print results, but my results are definitely better! Hope this helps.

What kind of lines, horizontal or vertical? Are they colored or black streaks, or white (no ink)?
Thin white horizontals are probably a clogged nozzle. From you maintenance menu, run Printhead Clean once, then do a nozzle check. If that hasn't cleared it, do the deep clean, then nozzle check again.
Thick and/or irregular verticals may be dirty rollers (did you accidently print on the wrong side of your photo paper?) or a glob of ink on the printhead. Open the manual and check the instructions for roller and/or backplate cleaning.

Remove print head without power from Canon IP4500

If you have no intention of 'fixing' the one that does not power on, then just dissasemble it. If you take it apart, chances are that something will not line-up correctly when trying to re-assemble it.

To troubleshoot the power issue: I would fisrt suspect that the wall power is not getting to the power module, since, I assume, when you say both work it means you used both to run the printer with the bad print head. The power module should be deistributing the power to the rest of the printer. There will be a main circuit board that is the brains of the printer. That will need power in order to drive the print head to center when you open the top.

Printing every other line lighter

Use the Canon software to do a "nozzle check".
The print-head has multiple "jets" that spray ink onto consecutive "rows" across the width of the paper. If some of the jets are clogged, then you get the "every other line is lighter" effect, and the printout from the "nozzle check" will show a pattern of "stripes".

I'm having a problem with the ink magenta on an IP4500 Canon Printer, it's not printing any magenta even with new cartridges and I've done all the maintenance checks!! Help!

there are small metal spring contacts between the cartridge holder and the cartridge itself, these send the signals to the print head via the cartridge holder. Over time, as a print cartridge moves from side to side during printing these flatten out and no longer come into contact with the cartridge. Find the contacts behind your magenta colour cartridge and re-tension the spring metal contacts so they once again contact the metal faces on the cartridge. They maybe hard to find as they will be in the place where the cartridge goes, use the flat copper faces on the cartridge to give you a clue as to the position of the contacts in the holder.

Color print is streaked. I've done the clean

if its white lines appearing in the printout then its sirely down to air, you may want to replace the cartridge with a new one & perform a few head cleans one after another.

see if that cures it for you.

Canon pixma ip4500 print head problem 5 lights flashing. Reinstalling print head does not solve problem.

Printhead can be washed under running hot tap to flush all the old ink away. I did mine and it didn't affect performance after drying it overnight in a warm area. Re-fitted it and away it went. Don't worry about getting connector board wet at the back.

Maybe an obvious answer, but have you cleaned the print heads several times? You can also remove the cartridges, remove the entire print head and clean it with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.

According to the manual, "If there are white vertical lines on your printout, you will need to clean the print head."
