Question about Dishwashers

Grinding Noise This dishwasher, the "quiet power II", makes quite a loud racket while in wash mode. I would call it a grinding noise. Sometimes, I can hit the front of it and it will stop, other times not so. And even sometimes, we can do two or three loads and the noise doesn't happen. (not often)

I read some other posts and found several with the same problem. Seems to be a common problem with this model. They said that its an easy fix...by tying the middle spray hose to the bottom of the top basket with some wire ties. I did and will see if it works. Thanks!

This is a definite fix for this problem! I used one wire tie to afix the pipe from the back of the dishwasher to the middle spray arm and wa-lah! The annoying noise is gone!

You an remove lower access panel run d/w and nextime it makes the noise grab a flashlight and take a look under. sounds like a vibration issue( especially since you hit it nad it stops) perhaps your copper water line is rattling or your drain line is hitting motor causing noise

My dishwasher makes a loud noise during wash cycle. quiet during filling and draining.

Could be a matter of how much is loaded in the racks and how it is placed. Something that is loosely loaded or located where the spray from the wash arm hits it can make quite a racket

Loud sounds

Many Frigidaire dishwashers come with the promise of being the "quietest dishwasher in its class," according to Frigidaire. However, a quiet dishwasher doesn't necessarily mean that the dishwasher is silent, as some noises are normal. It can take some troubleshooting at times to determine if a noise coming from the dishwasher is typical or if it indicates a larger problem Listen for the sound of water filling and draining throughout the wash cycle. These sounds are normal and do not indicate an issue.

  • 2 Pay attention to the drain motor, which operates at the beginning of each cycle. This noise should be fairly quiet and should not sound like a loud, grinding or banging sound.
  • 3 Note that the sound will change when the wash cycle moves between the lower and middle spray arms. This sound should be temporary and fairly quiet.
  • 4 Look for hard items in the dishwasher grinder or filter if a loud crunching, buzzing or grinding sound is heard. The dishwasher can typically grind up these items within one or two cycles, but the item may be lifted out and discarded to eliminate the sound.
  • 5 Remove the bottom rack and spray arms from the bottom of the dishwasher if there is a loud noise coming from the dishwasher that does not resolve itself. Look inside for the impeller, which is round and spins. Remove any debris that may be clogging up the impeller or pump.

When washer is started make loud grinding noise

Very likely the bearings in the motor have begun to fail. You can replace the motor, but for a 15 year old DW, sometimes it makes better sense to just buy a new one. Depends on the features the old DW has, vs new, vs motor replacement cost.

Check for bones/glass/ceramic from chipped plates in the food chopper (for lack of a better term). You'll need to disassemble the entire lower arm unit.

Our Frigidaire Ultra Quiet II dishwasher loud buzzing noise- wash

    No longer "ultra quiet" huh?

A sound during certain cycles indicates a broken part. By the information provided sounds like a pump may be the problem. You may need to contact a service tech about this issue. If the appliance still under warranty, the service should be provided for free.

Every time when you hear noises (other than the normal ones) in the appliance, it indicates there is something wrong and it will worsen over time, so as soon you hear something is not ok, get assistance.

Kenmore Ultrawash Quiet Guard 5 making buzzing/grinding noise

I have a very similar dishwasher, with a very similar problem. I fixed it by removing debris from the water evacuator pump located towards the front of the bottom of the machine (the last motor before the drain hose. In my case, grape stems had clogged it up. Once emptied, it purrs once again. NOTE: don't disassemble the motor, just flush it out, there is an o-ring gasket that is a bear to re-install.

It seems that your motor on the dishwasher is going out, like mine has just done. My explanation is that it sounds like something is grinding on glass or as if a bunch of mice are making noise. Eventually, the motor will not run any more. What will happen is that the dishwasher will fill up, then make a loud humming noise, while the heating element is making the water near the heating element sizzle. Now what you have is a possible fire hazard which compounds the problem with the dishwasher. Get rid of it, take the loss and live like my grandmother used to, without having a dishwasher. That is the best advice I can give you.

Diswasher motor making noise during wash cycle

It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.
