Hi, most likely the diamond tip has broken off your stylus. Remove stylus from cartridge and inspect under magnification. Replace if tip is missing or damaged. Cheers John.
Hello
You don't say whether you have only just acquired this deck or if you have been using it for some time and it has only now started to give problems.
There are 2 or 3 possible explanations.
If you have only just got this deck and are using it on a stereo that has a dedicated phono (record player) input it may be that you need to get inside your turntable to turn off the built in pre-amplifier switch. To do so make sure the tone arm is securely fixed into it's holder (a rubber band will hold it in tightly) before turning the deck upside down and unscrewing the bottom.
If you have just got this deck and are trying to play it through a stereo system that does NOT have a dedicated phono (record player) input you may need to get inside the deck to turn the phono pre-amplifier switch on.
And if the deck has been used for some time this is the most likely - the record stylus (needle) probably needs replacing. Personally, although it is a bit more expensive, I prefer to replace the whole cartridge rather than just the stylus as they do need changing from time to time anyway. Always replace the stylus at least at the frequency recommended by the manufacturer. Regularly clean the stylus with very gentle strokes from the back towards the front using a small soft brush.
Check your anti-skating knob. It should be set at the same value as the tone arm weight. Also look at the needle with a magnifying glass and make sure the diamond is not broken off
it could be two things: 1.the tone arm wires that connect to the head shell (blue-red-green-white i think) 2. the needle arm has twisted round Put it on the other deck if you've got one & see if it does it. look right at the end of the needle tip,& see if it's straight & pointing down, if not carefully twist the needle arm round until it is,& push it into back in to the cartridge a little bit.
There are a couple of reasons this is happening. First and formost gently lift the stylus arm and blow any and all dust off of the needle. You may even have to gently 'pinch' off any accumulated dust. Be careful since you don't want to pull the playing needle off.
This is a very common problem. If this does not help, you need a new stylus needle for the arm.
If your needle skips across the record, then there is only 1 thing wrong with it... it's broken, and needs to be replaced.
If after you've replaced the stylus, and problem persists, then you have something a little more serious... Tonearm damage. More than likely not, but just in case replace the stylus does not help.
Sounds like its time to change the needle [Stylus ] , there are a few types But the two most common are Saphire and Diamond Stylus pay the extra and get a diamond if you can , Hope this helps
