Question about GE Spectra JBP78 Electric Kitchen Range

Oven elements I was baking buns and the bottoms were over done but the tops did not bake.

A few issues, did you overcrowd oven cavity,(2 or more trays side by side??) properly preheat oven?? new pan perhaps too large for oven capacity, not allowing air flow around, or too low of a rack position

Top oven bottom coil doesn't come on. Is it


Yes the lower element of a electric oven is the bake element,the upper on is broil element,
The most usual thing why it doesnt heat is a broken element. Does a part of it look smooth and a part real rough and ragged looking
If a part of it looks ragged and rough the element is bad,it should not be bulged out anywhere of it.
it should look smooth and uniform
If it does seem to be not uniform anywhere on it,replace bake element

On bake mode it justs gets luke warm. broil mode it works fine


Hi,

Usually, when an oven won't bake, it's because the bake element is burned out. The bake element is the black, pencil- thick tube at the bottom of the oven. When the oven heats, the element glows red. This element has an expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it.


Here are two instances of when food "bakes poorly:"

  • When the food you're baking is done on top but not on the bottom--or when baking just takes far too long to finish--the bake element may be burned out.


  • You may get fooled into thinking it's working, because the oven is hot inside. But many electric ovens use the broil element, too, during the preheat and bake cycles. So the food may be getting heated only by the broil element, which causes poor baking results.

    If the bake element is burned out, replacing it should solve the problem. Otherwise, you need to further troubleshoot the oven's electrical system to locate the defective wire or component.

  • When the temperature is consistent but too high or too low, it could be one of several different things. First check to see if the thermostat sensing bulb has come loose from its holder. It could be lying on the floor of the oven or resting on the heating element. This would cause the oven to not heat correctly.


  • If the thermostat bulb is not dislodged, it's likely that the thermostat or sensor is either mis-calibrated or defective.

    Electronic ovens with a digital display use a sensor to monitor oven temperature. To solve temperature problems for these models, you may need to replace the sensor. On some digital-display models, you can calibrate the temperature using the key pad. See your operator's manual for details.

    Ovens without a digital display often use a mechanical system for controlling temperature. On many of these units, you can remove the thermostat knob and adjust the knob itself to more accurately represent the actual setting of the thermostat.

    If, when you remove the knob, there's a screw on the back of it with a small calibration plate, you can loosen the screw, adjust the plate, then tighten the screw again. If the knob isn't adjustable, and the oven temperature is off by more than 30 to 40 degrees, you need to replace the thermostat to solve the problem.

    I have a whirlpool range mod rf368lxpq o replaed probe and panel still very slow to come to temp. pre heat goes to about 200 deg and then veryy slow to come up to temp and hold temp


    It sounds like one of the elements are not working. There should be a concealed element in the bottom of the oven and a 'bake assist' element at the top iether seperate from the grill element or as a dual element assembly. Both of these elements should heat on bake function (not the grill element though), check for heat from both by turning bake on and feeling for heat from top and bottom. The oven requires heat from bot to get up to and maintain temp.

    GE JBP30 oven bottom element not working after being replaced


    I would be looking at the bake relay on teh coven control board. Using a voltage meter test the output voltage when energizing the bake feature. Be sure to remove the bake element wire coming from the bake element to the control. Test this terminal without the bake element wire attached. From the terminal with one meter probe to the neutral on the terminal block (where your cord attaches to), you should read 110 volts when energized and 0 voltge when shut off. What are you reading?     Top element does not come on when I bake..is it supposed to?


    no only the bottom the bake supposed to come on, the top one is for broiling when you set the knob or push for broiling.it will burn the top of everything you put in there.

    on bake setting only your bake element is on broil element comes on for preheat only naturally the top part of your oven is hotter heat rises take the temp in the center of oven with a good thermometer
    those cheap ones are a guide only dont swear by them

    Oven will not heat to requested temperature


    Shaffy, When baking only the bake element should heat. When broiling only the broil element (upper) should heat. Your oven is a Kitchenaid, you have a 5 year warranty on any electronic element or control board. You may have a temperature sensor that is not working right. The oven just might need to be calibrated, the instructions would be in your owners manual. Your bake element might be failing, it would have to be ohmed out. You also need to verify that the bake element is getting 240V. when turned on. Catriver...post back
