The iPAQ 3835 runs Windows Mobile. While this provides a similar look than Windows for desktop PCs, it is very different under the hood.
I'm sorry, desktop Windows like Windows XP, Vista or 7 will not run on your pocket pc.
In the 3800, and 3900 series 1GB is maximum for the SD card. Any size CF card will work.

No, you cannot use Windows Vista on your iPAQ.
I am not 100% sure but, I have seen products made before the whole HD SD cards not being able to use them so, I would stick to the regular SD cards which go to 2GB.

Window Vista syncronizing with iPAQ 3835 problem

In order to sync any iPAQ with Windows Vista, you will need to download and install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx.

Activesync will only work for XP Operating Systems and earlier.
Notes
  • To find out whether your version of Windows Vista or Windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit, click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties. The version is listed after System Type.
  • You can use Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 only with phones running Windows Mobile 2003 or later. ActiveSync and Windows Mobile Device Center won’t work with Windows Embedded CE 4.2 or 5.0, Pocket PC 2002, or Smartphone 2002 devices. (To see which Windows Mobile operating system you’re using, and if your phone doesn’t have a touch screen, click Start > Settings > About. If your phone has a touch screen, click Start > Settings > System tab > About.) To sync content to any of these devices, you must use a USB or serial cable and your computer’s Internet connection and File Explorer.
  • You must use Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2003, or Office Outlook 2007 to sync your e-mail, contacts, tasks, and notes from your computer.
  • You must use a USB cable to connect your phone to your computer the first time you use Windows Mobile Device Center to sync.

Online with a Compaq iPAQ H3835 Pocket PC

The 3835 did not have WiFi capability so you can't get online. Probably not worth messing with unless you're a real techie. I think there is a distro of Linux that can run on it if you want to play with that.

HP Ipaq h1940 won't sync with Vista

Hi. While holding power button, and pressing reset will do a hard reset to your PDA (reset the device to its factory default settings). So if your PDA is working well, don't do it. As for the syncronization with your Vista PC; Winodws XP uses the ActiveSync software for syncronization, and for Windows Vista, Microsoft developed a brand new syncronization software called "Windows Mobile Device Center". It can be downloaded here: (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx). When you download/install this software to your PC, you should be able to connect your PDA to your PC without any problem, and definitely without changing any OS in your PDA or PC. Hope this helps.

Is a compaq ipaq h3835 compatable with vista

No, you do not need an upgrade. You'll need to be download only "Windows Mobile Device Center" to your Vista PC instead of ActiveSync. (ActiveSync is not compatible with Vista, instead Microsoft changed the software a bit called "Windows Mobile Device Center" and can be downloaded from Microsoft's website.) Your Vista PC should also recognize your ipaq PPC without needing any driver CD. I hope it helps.

Did a quick search for batteries and found a lot and costs about 10-30$ for a battery
