Hi,
minimum 2GB for smooth use of the pc, but RAM is fairly cheep so I would go for 4GB. The most importet hardware to be fast is your harddrive.

Up grade for processor

you can only upgrade cpu with the socket you have, which is 478/479, the best you can do the Intel 1.6Mhz M processor 725
if you want a faster CPU, you need to get a new motherboard.

Upgrade to vista homebasic

More than likely you can, but you need to make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements. If you had of listed your specific make and model of the system you are currently using, I would have been able to give you a definite yes/no answer. The minimum system requirements are as followings for vista home basic:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 512 MB of system memory
  • 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
  • CD/DVD rom drive.
  • Audio Output
  • Internet access
You can also use the following windows vista upgrade advisor from Microsoft to help in making this a more easier determination.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

Would like to know the location of the processor in a hp pavilion notebook ze4200 and how if possible up grade the processor.

wherever your fan and vent is located the processor will be next to it, but beware as laptops are not as easy to upgrade processor wise as a desktop is.
