My new tappan dishwasher came with a blue front door. Is this blue material a protective layer to protect the door finish? If so, how do I remove it to show the real door finish?

Check the door gasket for uniform seating. Align it. If this does not solve the problem, contact the service provider. He may change the gasket or do the corrective action.
Hi I read your enquiry of how to remove the pushbutton swith.
You have to open the door, and remove the back panel of the door to release the front protecting cover panel. This is the only way to release the pushbutton. Do not forget to disconect the mains to avoid an electric shock.

Generally all protective objects for removal are colored neon, obviously labeled as such, or are simply tape. The protective material they indicated is most likely either a piece of tape across the print head or a plastic plug, which may or may not have even been there depending on if the printer was a return, it fell loose, etc. before you got it home or took it out of the box.
To access the pump, first bail and sponge out any water in the machine's tub. Then tip the machine over on its front, using a heavy blanket or pad to protect the dishwasher's finish. Remove the back service panel. The pump is usually located along the bottom.
Good luck!
