Question about FireLite (USBFLB80) Hard Drive

Smartdisk Firelite usbflb80 stopped working

It worked fine at startup two weeks ago. Then would not mount the icon on desktop after being off overnight. Using other USB port helped temporarily, but stopped again after overnight shutdown. My iMac is an old model. Friend tried my Firelite on his newer iMac and it works even after several reboots. I am using a USB hub for my mouse, keyboard, and printer and it provides sufficient power in both USB ports.

PowerBook G4 does not seem to recognize. (Worked well on previous Apple lap top)

If your Firelite SmartDisk was formatted for a PC, and you are using the Mac side of the G4 it won't. They use a different format scheme. Need to load Parallel, bootcamp, or another virtual PC program, and then Windows. Using that it will recognize it.

If you know another Mac user that is using both sides (Mac and Virtual PC) is a quick way to retrieve data to move it. Be careful reformatting the FireLite. There are some more complex ways. Hope that this helps.

PS: I use a 160GB FireLite on my G4, MacBook Pro as well as my Tower and notebook PCs.

Smartdisk Firelite 80GB-Stopped Working

I had the same problem with my firelite usbflb80-c, and carefully took the case off, 4 screws (one screw under the void if broken warranty sticker) my drive had somehow wiggled it's way out if the connection pins. Figures, with 5 yrs of use, all the traveling and occasional dropping. So I carefully pushed the drive back in place until I couldn't see connection pins any more. I plugged it into my computer before I closed it back up. THANKFULLY an easy fix, but I double checked for breaks or cracks before I closed it up. :o) YAY, I thought I had lost all my files!

My mac computer do not reades or recognize my external hard drive 60GB smartdisk from firelite

well. Open Disk Utility in the Applications folder under Utilities and see if it shows up and possibly mount it from there. Also open the System Profilier (also in the utilities folder) and check under USB - if that's how it's connected.

Smartdisk firelite won't be recognized on desktop-will on laptop

You have not said what system your computers are wroking under I would think your Sony is XP/2000 But the Dell is Win 98 - An I right? IF this is the case it means the drive has been formatted to NTFS which be read only on XO/2000 machines. The thing to do here is to load all your filed onto the Sony Then refomat to 32 bit - this makes a universal device but your Dell if I am right will not see the lappies stuff Come back with more detail
