Question about Vivitar 283 Flash

Replacement battery compartment cover

I recently lost the battery compartment cover for a Vivitar 273.  Does anyone out there know where to find a replacement?

Vivitar is out of the lens and flash business and does not offer any support for any of it's flash products.  I do not believe that B&H has a  parts and service department

Thank you for your suggestions.  I've called Vivitar and the tech support people only know about their current P&S digi cameras.  And yes, I know that the 285HV is still available, but all I'm looking for is a battery cover (a $5.00 part at best).   Anyway, I've decided to bite the bullett and I have a used 283 coming from KEH.  My 273 will scavenged for parts as needed.  Thanks once again

    You didn't try.

Hope the following would be helpful.

    (800) 592-9541, they're out in CA.
Vivitar was purchased by Syntax-Brillian Corp.

Just contact B & H: buy the new Vivitar 285HV for under $95.00.

Or cheaper ways: use the 7.2VDC battery form those remote control cars and car lighter cord for cell phone.

Cut the cord up on both ends.
Find which is Positive(+)and which is negative(-) inside of flash.

    Solder them into place.
Buy male plug from Radio Shack.
    Solders male plug to cord.
Charge the 7.2VDC battery from the charger.
    Connect battery to plug.

You've just made pro battery for less than $50.00.
Lot less than buy the Quantum Battery for over $300.00
If this tips were helpful, send me some contributions:-)

    "Thank for trying" was rated
That flash is less than $10.00

The adapter will be over $10.00. That's used.

Just get the 285HV from camera stores.

Anything under $200.00 are throw away, when they break down. Just the shipment will hit over $5.00.

You have to apply pressure and slide at the same time. The point to press will be either near the outward or inward edge of the cover.

I have three, all stored for years, and now they all do not work. Is there some internal battery that needs replacement ( beyond the regular batteries) or something that I can do to revive them? Thanks!

Flashes stored a long time often suffer from capacitor failure. The first thing to try however is leave the batteries in for a few minutes powered on to see if they will charge. If this doesn't work, then they'll need professional repair.

Vivitar 285 not working

You don't need a Manual.
In 285 HV there is only one Power on/off switch.
If that switch is on and batteries are new Alkaline (like duracell-no chepo )or fully charged and working rechargebles, and yet the ready light do not come the flash has defect inside. For sure.

Vivitar 285HV Stop Working

There is nothing wrong with your flash unit. The regular AA batters are 1.5 v volts each- if 4 batteries are used that is a total of 6 volts for proper operation. The rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts each and 4 will get you 4.8 volts- thats 1.2 volts short and that is probably the root of our problem .

Try recharging you rechargeable batteries and put the im one more time- if the same problem happens you will have to stick with standard AA batteries. There external 6 volt packs that will work with your flash unit0 the are a bit of an expense at first but you will save on replacement batteries in the long run,.
