Question about Projection Televisions

3 Answers

I have a samsung 46" dlp TV. Everything on it was fine until last week. I turned on videogame (Nintendo Wii) and there are 4 vertical bands and green lines. I thought it was the videogame but then when I tried to play a DVD the same thing happened. The TV is working fine through the cable box (HDTV is working fine too). I changed the connectors from AV1 to AV2 and AV3 and same thing happens. The TV was bought in 2005 and has very little hours on it.

No....not at all....the image in the you tube video was very clear and it seemed like the lamp was pulsing. On mine, the image is almost a ghost image that can hardly be seen in back of scraggly, alternating black and green lines.

    Model # is: HL-R4667W

  • kadry Feb 25, 2008

Astrobyte....yes it seems to be the same tho I don't have any pink lines. Just out of curiousity...I suspect a power surge may be involved. The other day I found the circuit breaker tripped and had to reset it. All my equipment is plugged into a power surge protector except the Wii videogame console. Could a surge possibly burn out all video inputs even if the Wii was only connected to AV3?

  • kadry Feb 26, 2008

Would you believe it....my Wii came back from Nintendo yesterday; they said the board had been replaced. I plugged it in and this time I hooked it to the power surge protector and AV3...everything worked fine. The DVD player is also now working fine. No one can explain this sequence of events!

Talk about a downer. I turn on the system today and its doing the same thing again. AV3, S-Video DVD and Cable 10 have five greenish vertical bands and screen is green and black. The TV works fine off the cable box. And I canceled the repair order!

The picture looks like this on AV3 (nintendo) and s-video inputs. TV picture from cable box on component input is fine.

Hiya Kadry! Does the problem look like this at all?

Video

If it does, or if you have similar lines and banding I'd suspect the problem is with the color wheel that is part of the DLP mechanism. If that's the case, you will need to have the TV serviced.

Good luck!

Yes, unfortunately, it is possible. It's even possible through it's own surge protector if it is underrated for whatever jolt came through.

Sorry that it has to be all bad news, especially since it's probably just out of it's warranty period. I'd still recommend having a service estimate performed.

Sorry to hear the turn of events you had. It does strengthen the suspicion that a board is bad, but it could just be a loose fitting or solder connection that came back and went out again from movement when hooking stuff up.

If it were me, I would definitely reinstate the repair order.

Samsung HLN5065W - Vertical lines on Screen
the screen flickered and about 10 sets of 1/8" vertical black lines, in groups of 8, appeared across the screen. They flickered on and off,
you have a bad dmd module and it cost around $750-$800
Happend, because a bad soldering connections in that module. Lines will come on and off. Probably 1 day will stay on. For last 2-3 years it seen that only on hlm and hln series. Probably
happens on other models. but, i never seen that.
Is not that hard to replace that module. You have to remove 2 screws from left side and 1 screw from bottom right side of module and 4 of them
from around dlp unit unplug all cables ( i think
3 cables ) that it. Same way install new one in.
but you will need to adjust a module position to get
picture to fill whole screen.

Hi,

Did you check to see if the cables are fine? Try another set if possible.

The DMD chip is failing. The little mirrors on it are sticking in the on position therefore always reflecting the white light from the lamp. The part number you will need is 4719-001981 and is available from the Samsung parts website. I have included a link to directly purchase the part from them. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

No. The optical engine is OK. You need an adjustment in the light tunel. Call a tech to do it.

Samsung DLP HLR5668W has mostly dark picture + grinding noise

Pix looks like a light pipe issue, inside the Light Engine. as far as the shutting down, could be a bad fan causing the grinding and when stopps the DMD turns the set off.
