My screen is black..my computer come on but nothing in the screen

If you're getting just a flashing cursor on a black screen it's probably a motherboard/video card/hard disk problem (probably motherboard).

If there's not even a flashing cursor - just a black screen - you can add a failed power unit to your list of problems.

The easiest way to check is to borrow a power unit and video card from a friend's computer. There's no need to remove your existing power unit. Simply disconnect the power cables from the motherboard and connect the spare power unit in its place.

If your computer powers up it is obviously a faulty power unit to blame. IIf there's still nothing on the screen, power down the computer and replace the video card with the spare one. If there's still nothing on the screen when you power it up then in all probability your motherboard is history

OS issue

When you mention boots, Is the computer able to POST a message to the screen or do you mean switching the computer on and there nothing POST to the screen. If your computer is able to post and then you get a black screen after that with possibly a flashing underscore symbol, then you are missing a O.s or your harddrive is currupted. If nothing is POST to the screen once the computer is turned on, then there could be couple of culprit that is causing this defect to RAM memory error, VGA, CPU, or the Motherboard itself..... The only way to test what is actually wrong is to have other hardware compatiable to test the computer itself.... would reccommend you taking it in to a computer shop since they have diagnositc tools, unless you have other computer hardware to test this with.

just change you screen saver setting in control panel.
go control panel and change display setting.

Try the fuse on the monitor power cord, and if this does not cure, you will have to get another monitor....pretty good prices on ebay!

1 either ur VGA card is corrupted or
2 RAM is corrupted
3 Last may be your motherboard is gone - not sure

try to restart holding down F8 this puts you in safe mode then erase program and use yourestore to earlier date

it seems the sudden loss of power fried the screen...or it could be the video card that might have downed.  always try to use keyboard combos like crtrl+alt+del or alt F4 before resorting to such violent measures :( 

how can u fix this black screen? the green power light is on, shows vista for a bit then turns black and stays black. any solutions or do i have to send it back?
