Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC96 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

DCR-HC96 Automatic Lens Cover won't open

I turn on my Sony Handycam DCR-HC96 and it makes a weird noise and the automatic lens cover will not open. I get a message saying "Lens cap not fully opened." Well, obviously. The message says just to turn it off and on again, but that doesn't work. I need this fixed! Otherwise, the camera would work fine!

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

SONY HANDYCAM DCR-40

Lens cover error message comes when its not opend. There is a switch inside Front Cover (where lens and mic mounted) got bad contact. Open that Front cover and unscrew the circuit board, put 1 drop of W-40 cleaner oil and fix back all things.

OMG! I had the same issue and blew on the lens. To easy to be true, but it worked! I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I turned the camcorder on and off several times, and it worked every time! Sure beats the $341 Sony was going to charge to fix it!!!!
