You need to go to Gateway.com support and download the driver for yout network card and install it. the mouse should work if it is a basic mouse that came with the computer, or if you have a wireless mouse you will need to get the drivers and install them from the makers website.

Computer won't recognize external usb hard drive

try it on another computer if that dosent work you should
reformat your computer but first backup all your data by putting your another internal hardrive on your computer and move all your files you need to the empty hardrive and after that take the hardrive with all your stuff in it off the computer and then reformat the hardrive which the external hardrive does not work on and install a new operating system then put the other hardrive with all your stuff back on your computer and transfer your stuff into the hardrive with a operating system then try the external hardrive

OR
you can burn all your stuff into a CD or a DVD
OR
you can put all your stuff into FlashDrives and then after you reformat the hardrive with an operating system put your stuff back into the computer and after that the external hardrive should work

Are you using a wireless mouse or keyboard? If so try using one that you plug in. As for the cd rom and hard drive all you need is one cable for each device hooked to seperate connectors on the motherboard. Ususally the hard drive will be sata which is a red cable and can only go onto one connector on the motherboard. the cdrom is an ide cable(grey usually) and there is a seperate connector for that on the mainboard.

When I turn on my computer i get a message that says hard drive failure is imminent and it will not allow me turn it on

You're viewing that message because your hard drive needs to be replaced in your computer.

You'll need to take it to a local computer repair shop and tell them to replace your hard drive.

Open the enclosure, plug the IDE cable into the back of the hard drive. Plug the power connector into the back of the hard drive. Mount the hard drive with the included fasteners. Close the enclosure, Plug in the power supply to the wall. Turn on the external drive. Plug in the USB cable to your computer. Browse your files.

I would like diagram on hooking hard drive to hard drive.

If you are trying to put another hardrive into your existing pc I could explain but you if would like something more visual then there is a tutorial here

its simple really since the computer auto detects the new hardrive. the hardest part are the jumpers on the back of the hardrive. You see one hardrive has to be set to Master and the other has to be set to slave. the hardrives can connect to the IDE cable (the big flat cable inside your pc) in any order but they cannot be both set to master. The jumpers are easy to switch and the hardrive itself will have a diagram right next to the jumpers to show you how to move the jumpers to make the selection.

its a great idea to have two drives in your pc in case something happens to the first, but i always recommend a hard backup (cd/dvd).

DVD hardrive problem

Do you check the setting of your hard drive? It seems that you have already another hard drive (HD) install which is working already were your operating system install. Try to put the 2nd HD setting in slave position. Follow instruction that is written at the back of HD. Your computer should read the 2nd HD as slave and will see it as drive: F or G and so on.
