The waste ink absorber is used to absorb the excess ink during printing. You will have to clean it first to be able to print again. It looks like a sponge pad that is located under the chamber where you insert the cartridges. Remove the cartridge, take a dry cloth and press it against the pad to absorb the ink of it. Keep repeating by using fresh areas of the cloth until you see little or no ink appearing on the cloth. Once done, turn on the printer, turn it off and turn it on again. You will most likely be able to print. If not we can always use the reset code to clear the eeprom's memory.

Let me know if you need more help,
Sai.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Open the cover, move the cartridges to the centre, and then press the pad of absorbent paper towel onto the waste ink pads. You can locate the waste ink pads to the right of the cartridges. This will absorb a lot of ink in the pads and that will remove the warning after you reset the printer waste ink tank counter. Another thing you can do is to completely replace the waste ink pads or maybe take a hot water towel and clean it till the time you see no ink residue on the towel & then let it dry out. You can reset your Canon Printer by following this procedure—

1) With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.
2) When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3) When releasing the Power button and the Stop / Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)
4) When the on/off lights in green, press the Stop/Reset button 4 times for waste ink counter reset.
5) Turn off the printer. (It must be turn off) then turn it on again.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Ink absorber full

Ink Absorber Full
This may clear the ink absorber problem. There is ink absorbers located at both ends of the printer where the ink head move.
To dry the ink absorber, power up the printer and open the cover so the ink cartridges and print head will move to the middle of the printer.
Then take several sheets of absorbent tissue, fold it into a pad and place it inside the printer over the ink absorber on the far left hand side of the printer to soak up the excess ink. You may need to change the absorbent tissue a few times. Then repeat the same procedure on the right hand ink absorber.
Close the lid and the printer should now function normally.

How to fix my printer? it has message that the ink absorber is almost full

Not all the ink that leaves the ink-cartridges gets sprayed onto the paper. Some of the ink is "wasted", and ends-up in the absorber (a small sponge inside a small garbage-can).

A computer-technician can empty the absorber (or replace it), and reset the "counters" inside the printer, to tell the printer that the new absorber now is only 0% "full".

Ink absorbers almost full in Canon Pixma iP 1500 how can I fix it yourself

Hi ...

This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible by pressing the <Resume> button on the printer. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk.

Please vote if this helps ... Cheers :)

Here's the link

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=10237&kbpage=yes

So what they are saying more or less is throw out the printer because it's going to cost more to replace the absorber than to just buy a new printer.

If you ak me it's just another way these printer companies screw customers. Just my opinion.
Sorry about the bad news but at least you have your answer.
