For as little as half the cost of the Base Station, you can buy an AirPort-compatible wireless router that offers most of the AirPort Base Station's features (and in some cases, even more).

The AirPort were the easiest to set up, and works rather smoothly vs all the other routers on the market.

All the others tended to have a few hiccups, some more than a few, but the AirPort is Macs best bet.

Try changing the channel of your wireless router to either channel 1 or channel 11 which can increase download speeds.

If your router is using WEP encryption

  • Ensure your key is hexadecimal, consisting of 0-9 or A-F only, no other special characters or letters.
  • 64 bit encryption requires your WEP key to be 10 characters consisting of numbers or leters A through F.
  • 128 bit encryption requires your WEP key to be 26 characters consisting of numbers or leters A through F.
If your router is using WPA encryption, the Wii is compatible with :
  • WPA - PSK(TKIP)
  • WPA - PSK(AES)
  • WPA2 - PSK(AES)
If your router is using MAC filtering, ensure the Wii MAC address has been added to the list of approved MAC address on your wireless router settings.

2170W wireless connection to mac computers

My suggestion would be to connect an ethernet cable from the printer to the router. This is a more stable connection for the printer on the network.

All of your wireless computers will be able to connect to it and print to it as long as they are connected to the network.

To get the printer back in wired mode, you will need to reset the printer and network card of the printer.

1. Turn off power
2. Hold down go Button while switching back on
3. Wait 2 secondes before letting go and press the go button 8 times quickly
4. Wait for the unit to finish warming up
5. Repeat steps 1 and 2
6. Wait 2 secondes before letting go and press the go button 7 times quickly this time
7. Wait for the unit to finish warming up then plug in the ethernet cable.

My son has a macbook pro and every time he opens his browser it knocks out the router, a netgear wgt624, and the signal is dropped

Wow, I've heard of Apple Mac's being evil before, but never heard of one knocking out a whole wireless router.

The technology used by Apple Mac and everybody else is really the same. I can't think of a reason for a macbook pro to cause a router to actually stop transmitting signal?

Try a different wireless router ... see if it zaps that one too. If so take the Apple back to the store or to your church for an exorcism.

Newer Apple Mac may have Airport Pro ... with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequency bands in it. It won't have such an amazing amount of power coming out of it that it can zap (like star wars) a wireless router.

By the way Airport Extreme is a very nice wireless router ... and it should play nice both with Apple Mac's and every other kind of computer. And you can link more than one of them wirelessly.

Dlink WBR 1310 not connecting to a MAC(Apple) network

With power on, push & HOLD reset button on rear of router for at least 10 secs - then release. UNplug power to the cable modem while you're doing all this. Then, plug power to modem back in, and try router connect to computer again.
Please let me know - and if you wouldn't mind, please take the time to rate my response to you.

Thank you and good luck.

Wireless

Well once it is reset, in the configuration section of the router, for setting standard passwords, you can change the password, which is advisable.

Next, for setting up a private wire/wireless network, My way of doing it is by setting the system up to Only allow Certain Mac Address's from the computers that are allowed to access to the internet through yours

To get the MAC Address, Hit Start, Run Program, Command Prompt. Then in Command Prompt, enter this string line: ipconfig /all

From there, it will give you the MAC Address for that computer. It should be a total of 12 Alpha Numeric Digits, Spaced with dashes between every 2. With that, you go into the router and in the Mac Address section for computers allowed to connect to your network, you enter in all the MAC Addresses that are allowed to use your network. Save, then it should refresh the page once that is done. With that, it makes a very hard to break Network that actually doesnt take much time. I was quite surprised 4 years ago to find that this was the easiest way to really set up a near perfect network with no issues
