It is probably a hard drive failure and will either require the operating system to be repaired, rebuild or at worst case the hard drive to be replaced and then the operating system to be reinstalled.

It is impossible to go further without expert examination so I advise you to find a reputable repair man.

To solve this Code 10 error, follow these instructions: NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications.
1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
• SYSTEM
• CurrentControlSet
• Control
• Class
• {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4)This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry.Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

• UpperFilters
• LowerFilters
• UpperFilters.bak
• LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

ok, you need to know and to do
1) your monitor can be up to 1280X1050 resolution and automatch to destop one,
2) you need clean Rams first(reinstall Rams to make connection well)
3) the windows xp sp3 it can not support onboard VGA higher resolution without original motherboard video driver,
3) in this case your destop maybe lost the original driver so you need check the onboard video driver at hardware managment, there is a yellow mark at video device.then find a matched driver to update. still unfixed means your onboard video chips has some problem.and then
4) you may insert a AGPvideo card to AGP slot and install its driver should be fixed well.

Don't worry, there's no fee for this solution, you only pay for Premium Solutions, and your problem was posted as a normal, 'free' one.
Your problem has few answers online but I'll advise you as best as I can.
Code 10 probably indicates a hardware error, or 'Device not present', so turn it off and on again, check the cable to the PC, ensure the Scanner driver in your Device Manager (in Control Panel > System) is working properly, and if you have ever burned a disk from it, did you use Roxio Direct CD software? Roxio drivers are notorious for causing device conflicts.
I found a picture of the scanner that says it has been replaced by another model:



So I don't think there is support for it anymore, and the closest user manual I could find to your model was for the CD-4046 and was only available for $8.50!
So, I can only suggest resetting it, running any onboard diagnostic tests etc.
If you can manage to do a manual scan, that will isolate the problem to the sending of the image to the computer.. meaning that the code 10 error could refer to something on there, which would at least be more easily rectified.

If the Error 10 window provides anymore information whatsoever, please post a description here,and I'll look over it and try to give you a second opinion. Let me know how you get on anyway..
