Question about Sony VAIO VGP-WKB1 Keyboard

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Sony Vaio VGC LM 18G. Suddenly four keys on the wireless Keyboard no longer register. the keys feel fine they don't feel like they are sticking or that anything is stuck underneath them. I was using the computer last night & when I switched it on this morning the S, C, V & N keys no longer work. I have tried rebooting the computer & switching the keyboard on & off, nothing helps. I find it hard to believe that it is a hardware problem as four keys are affected & they were working fine last night. Any ideas? Thanks Connie

Definitely nothing spilled on it. However, a pet may have stepped on it (but don't thinks so. Why would a pet stepping on it do this? Also why 4 keys?
Will try lifting the keys, but they really feel quite normal, they don't feel like anything is stuck underneath. Could it be a driver problem?

    Thanks

    Hi Nicolasiac,

I did do a system restore back to a week ago, no change. I haven't installed any new software. the last thing I probably looked at was either Facebook or Windows Mail, before shutting down. I have taken off the keys to see if there is anything under them, they are pristine very clean. I have no idea what caused this sudden keyboard issue.
it looks like a new keyboard is in order...

    thanks

Hi,
Did you or anyone else spilled anything on them? Do you have a pet that may stepped on your keyboard?
What you can do is to take out on of the problematic keys. Disconnect from power and use a small ruler to pop the key out. See if anything is under there. Maybe hair or food. Do not shake your laptop as this can lead to other problems. Get a dry cloth and clean the key base and underneath the key. Reinsert the key and try it again. If this works do the same for the other keys.

    Hi,

If a pet stepped on it then maybe hair went into the keyboard.

Did you install any new software? Which was the last application you used before shutting down? You could try restoring your computer to the day that the keys worked. To do this go to Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore.

Select a restore point (if the buttons were working on 07/02 but not on the 08/02 then choose a restore point before or on 07/02).

The computer will restart and restore settings from the selected date. If you don't see any difference then try an earlier restore point (06/02).

    Regards,

Stuck keys thanks to girlfriends Margarita.board still works but keys stick. Getting rid of her want to save the keyboard. How can I clean? new sony viao wireless keyboard for desktop.

Not sure if this is different to a std keyboard but in cases like this I'd

Turn keyboard over, remove retaining screws noting position and order and take out the plastic membrane, wash thoroughly with mild detergent and dry thoroughly. Remove keys in turn, clean with warm water dry and replace. Any other stickiness an be removed with isopropyl alcohol or similar and a q tip or lintless cloth , gently clean. reassemble.

Certain keys won't function on keyboard

Could be that the connector from the keyboard to the mainboard is crooked. Try taking the keyboard off and wiggling the connector from the keyboard to the board so that it is a snugger fit.
