Same thing happens to me. After I took it to Circuit City for an unrelated problem...broken screen. They took the liberty to upodate my BIOS and now the computer either starts up in Quick Play or hibernates!

my problem is that even when using the ctrl/alt/del to get the task manager nothing happens. the only option i have to turn the laptop on is the quickplay power switch as the laptop power button is broken. If I try to get to windows from quickplay, it goes directly into hibernation.

If you click on ctrl/alt/delete at same time you should get the task manager and choose the shutdown mode or find the quickplay option and end the process too..

you can also just hold down your power button until it turns off but reboot it in safe mode first then boot up again.. hope this helps..d

Hello esamili, I'm sorry to say that Quickplay doesn't seem to be compatible in the 64 bit version of win7. you can try running the program in compatibility mode.
  • Right Click on the HP Quickplay Icon.
  • Left Click on properties.
  • Left click on Compatibility Tab.
  • In The compatibility mode Section click on the check box stating "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
  • Left click on drop list.
  • Left Click on Windows Vista (Service Pack 2).

My HP compact nc6000 laptop went to Hiberating mode and i don't know how to fix the problem. If i could please get help that would be great. i just got this laptop yesterday. it was working but all of...

    Hi Jessica,

Hibernation mode usually turns the computer off but saves any work. Then you would start it back up by hitting the power button, it will boot up and you log in like normal and the computer should be as it was before it went into hibernation.

If you can't get it out of hibernation by pressing the power button, try holding the power button for 5-10 seconds. The laptop may actually still be on, and holding the power button will cut if off. Once the computer is back on you can change the battery options(hibernation/turn off settings) in Windows by going to the bottom right task bar and right clicking on the battery icon. Normally you will have an option like "power saving settings", "battery settings". In this setting window you can turn off hibernation due to inactivity.

Let me know if you have any questions.
    Regards,
    G33k

How do i turn on my web cam on my new windows 7 compaq laptop?

You use, Quickplay, To access QuickPlay, just press the "blue QuickPlay button" next to the power button. If it doesn't load QuickPlay, just do "Start" - "All Programs" - then you will see QuickPlay listed there. If you still can't find it just do a search, you will find the short-cut.

Once launched QuickPlay, click on the 2nd icon from left (between DVD and TV icon), then double-click on "HP Pavilion WebCam" from the left side panel, then you will see the blue LED light lit and you should see yourself on the screen. (Double-click "yourself" to enlarge image)

To take a picture or record video, just press the corresponding buttons on the top. (the red circle icon is for recording video (press "Stop" icon to stop recording), the camera icon is for, well, camera)
Videos and pictures are saved at:
    Pictures -- C:\Users\Public\Pictures\My Snapshots
    Videos -- C:\Users\Public\Videos\HP Webcam

    Just go to:

    C:\Program Files\HP\QuickPlay

and see if you have QuickPlay installed or not.

If yes, then double click on "QP.exe", and that should bring up QuickPlay. And later you can make a shortcut to it.

HP dv5 1225ca stuck on mute

Go to the HP Support site. Click on "Drivers and Downloads" tab. Enter the p/n (product number) from the white label on the bottom of your laptop in the box where they ask and go. The next page will offer you a chance to choose the Operating System you're using. Enter the correct one and you'll be taken to the Drivers site for your laptop. Look down the list for HP Quickplay and HP Quick Launch Buttons drivers. You must install the QUICKPLAY driver first. Also, look for the Sound category and download and install that driver as well.

    That should get you going.

HP Quickplay / Computer shuts down into hiberating mode

    I don't understand the problem...
The unit shuts down or goes into hibernation when you use the quickplay program.??
I don't know which switch you are in re: to. ??
Anyway, if the unit has a software issue, I would remove the quickplay and re-load the latest version 3.7 or 8. Quickplay is nolonger ava. on there new units and they may discontinue it before long.
Have have to do a complete un-install before re-loading the newer version.
    Good luck
