I couldn't see anything wrong with the paper feed rollers. I have looked at them several times, not sure how to check and where exactly to look though.

When I checked the printer configuration, I cannot configure the port at USB1....

    Could that be a problem?

  • jinghai_zhen Feb 08, 2010

Sorry it didn't work. Any more suggestions?

I have removed the pick-up roller several times and it doesn't look like to be the problem.

The problem started just after I pulled back a jammed paper that was jammed only at the front edge. It shouldn't be possible to damage anything such as the pick-up roller.

However, I noticed that one could see a loose handle on the left handside in side the printer, which can be seen when the cartrige was removed. I wonder if this small handle should be loosely attached to the left.

Hello, Jinghai.

Sounds like you may have damaged the pickup roller.

To replace the pickup roller:

Order part #: RL1-0266 In the U.S., call 800-471-4701.

Changing the pickup roller (from HP Support):

1. Turn the printer off, and then unplug the power cord from the printer. Wait for the printer
to cool.
CAUTION To prevent damage to the print cartridge, minimize its exposure to direct light. Cover the print cartridge with a sheet of paper.
2. Open the print cartridge door, and remove the print cartridge.
3. Find the pickup roller.
4. Release the small, white tabs on either side of the pickup roller, and rotate the pickup roller toward the front.
5. Gently pull the pickup roller up and out.
6. Position the new pickup roller in the slot. The circular and rectangular slots on each side will prevent you from installing the roller incorrectly.
7. Rotate the top of the new pickup roller away from you until both sides snap into place.
8. Reinstall the print cartridge, and close the print cartridge door.
9. Plug the printer into the power outlet, and then turn on the printer.

But, first try to clean the pickup roller - that may work. Here are the instructions:

If you want to clean the pickup roller rather than replace it, follow the instructions below:
1. Remove the pickup roller as described in steps 1 through 5 of Changing the pickup roller.
2. Dab a lint-free cloth in isopropyl alcohol, and scrub the roller.
WARNING! Alcohol is flammable. Keep the alcohol and cloth away from an open flame. Before you close the printer and plug in the power cord, allow the alcohol to dry completely.
3. Using a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe the pickup roller to remove loosened dirt.
4. Allow the pickup roller to dry completely before you reinstall it in the printer.

Hope this helps.

You have probably damaged the paper sensor that detects the paper in the paper feed path. It's usually a small sprung metal arm that "feels" the paper as it goes through. Once damaged the printer won't know that paper is in the feed path and subsequently won't print. Find a good shop locally that can have a look and attempt a repair for you.

Try to power cycle the printer. First, disconnect the printer from the wall socket and leave it disconnected for five minutes. Then turn the printer back on.

If that did not work, then cold reset the printer. Here's how:

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Power on the printer while depressing both the Go and Cancel buttons. Keep the buttons depressed. The lights will begin to flash in sequence.
  3. Release the buttons when all three lights begin to flash in unison.
The printer is now reset and ready for use.

Good luck and have a great day!

Hpc6280 paper caught internally

This information comes from the User Manual on pages 111-112:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01150745.pdf

Internal paper jams on this machine tend to be in the two-sided printing accessory.

To clear a paper jam from the two-sided printing accessory:
1. Turn off the printer
2. Press in the tabs on the left and right side of the two-sided printing accessory, and remove it by pulling out from the center of the printer.
3. Gently pull the paper out of the rollers. If the paper has torn, check the rollers and wheels for small, torn pieces of paper
4. If it's still not clear, open the two-sided printing accessory by pulling up on the tabs, and remove any paper stuck inside it, then close the accessory by pressing down on the tabs until they lock into place
5. Replace the two-sided printing accessory by pushing it forward until it snaps back into place
6. Turn on the printer, and verify that it works by pushing OK to continue the job it jammed on.

Says there is a paper jam and to open top cover but I do not see a paper jam there. I took out the toner cassette but do not see the paper jam.

When your reports paper jam for any reason, whether there is paper jam or not, most times you need to go thruogh paper jam clearing procedure to have your printer printing again. So please follow the procedure below:-

Clearing paper jam in a printer is simple almost seven step procedure depending on the printer. Paper jam is the term used to refer to the scenario where your paper fails to come out of the printer during the print process. When you send a document to the printer, normally the printer prints out the document on a paper; then you can pick up your printed copy. When the paper gets stuck in the printer, it is said that paper has jammed in the printer "paper jam".

Even if you are not a technical person, you can conveniently clear paper jams. All you need is to follow the set of procedures outlined below.

Put off the printer and unplug it from its power source.

Open all the covers/shutters on the printer (usually you will find one in the front or top and one at the back of the printer).

(If the printer is a DeskJet, otherwise ignore this step) Now pull out the cartridge carefully and place it on safe surface. (Be careful not to place it where it may slide and fall. This could damage the cartridge)

Site the paper that has jammed and pull it out in the opposite direction of its movement. Do not pull in the direction it was coming out. (Pulling the paper in the opposite direction is important for the printer's mechanism. Printer must be off). Never pull out paper from a printer when the printer is powered on.

(If the printer is a DeskJet, otherwise ignore this step) Return the cartridge gently and press it firmly inside so that you here it snap inside.

Close all covers at the top, front or back.

Power on your printer and you should be able to print again.

Good luck and God bless!

Paper jam printer 3524

Clear the jammed paper as follows.

If the jammed paper is removed completely by using the information in the following steps, you can install the paper tray first, and then close the front cover and the printer will resume printing automatically.

If the printer does not start printing automatically, press the Go button. If the printer still does not start printing, please check that all the remaining jammed paper has been removed from the printer. Then try printing again.

Pull the paper tray completely out of the printer.

Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer.

Press the cover release button and then open the front cover.

Pull out the drum unit assembly. Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer. If you cannot remove the drum unit assembly easily at this time, do not use extra force. Instead, pull the edge of the jammed paper from the paper tray. If the jammed paper can not be pulled out easily, turn the jam dial towards you as you gently pull the paper out.

Open the face-up output tray. Pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit. If the paper jam can be cleared, go to Step 7.

Open the jam clear cover. Pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.

Close the jam clear cover. Close the face-up output tray. If the paper jam still cannot be cleared, for HL-5130 and HL-5140 users go to Step 10, and for all other users go to the next step.

Pull the Duplex Tray completly out of the printer.

Pull the jammed paper out of the printer or the Duplex tray. Put the Duplex tray back into the printer.

Push the lock lever down and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit assembly. Take out the jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit.
Put the toner cartridge into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put it in properly, the lock lever will lift automatically.

Put the drum unit assembly back in the printer.

Put the paper tray in the printer.

Close the front cover.

Credit card-sized and 4" x 6" sized paper must be loaded properly. If this media is not loaded properly, it will feed into the printer and will not exit. 7. Pull out the folded paper and close the rear cover.

Once some printers report paper jam, you most must go through certain procedures, even if you have removed the jammed paper, for the printer to print again. So I suggest you follow this procedure:-

i. Put off the printer and unplug it from its power source.
ii. Open all the covers/shutters on the printer (usually you will find one in the front or top and one at the back of the printer).
iii. Site the paper (if any) that has jammed and pull it out in the opposite direction of its movement. Do not pull in the direction it was coming out. (Pulling the paper in the opposite direction is important for the printer’s mechanism. Printer must be off). Never pull out paper from a printer when the printer is powered on.
v. Close all covers at the top, front or back.
vi. Power on your printer and you should be able to print again.

PAPER JAMMED-PRINTER HL5150D

Hello a_bowen1

You can clear the jammed paper as follows.

Note
    • If a paper jam occurs when using the optional lower tray unit, check for correct installation of the upper paper tray.
    • Always remove all paper from the paper tray and straighten the stack when you add new paper. This helps prevent multiple sheets of paper from feeding through the printer at one time and reduces paper jams.
  1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the printer.

Note
If you have to pull the paper toward the back of the printer, the fuser may get dirty with toner powder and it may scatter on the next few printouts. Print a few copies of the test page until the scattering of toner stops.
chap0615.gif Caution
After you have just used the printer, some internal parts of the printer are extremely hot! Wait for the printer to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the printer.
