First of all check whether there is any CD in the Drive. If your system is configured with CD as first boot device, instead of Hard disk and there is non bootable disk in the CD tray this could happen. If you find a CD in the tray and removing it gets your computer to boot normaly, then change the first boot device to Hard disk in the BIOS. If this is not the case, check the power and IDE cable into the hard disk for any loose connection. Check the IDE cable at the hard disk end as well as the mother board side. If this also alright, you may want to check the hard disk for probable fault or corrupted operating system.

A brand name and model with operating system would be nice so someone could be precise. ?

Restoring your laptop to factory settings can take up to an hour to perform, depending upon the type of laptop and operating system on your machine. Prior to performing a system recovery, you should remove any external peripherals, such as ExpressCards, PC Cards, and USB-connected printers and hard drives. Turn on the laptop. Press the "F8" key until the "Advanced Boot Options" screen appears. Select "Repair Your Computer" using the arrow keys. Press the "Enter" key. Choose your "Language," then "Next." Login with an administrator-level username and password. Click "OK. Select "Dell Factory Image Restore," then "Next." Tick the check box next to "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition." Click "Next." Click on "Finish" after the computer has concluded the factory restoration. b> Restore on an HP b> Insert the HP recovery disk. Restart the computer, and press the "F11" key. Press the "F" key to "reinstall factory settings." If your computer's operating system is damaged, you may only see "perform a full system recovery" as an option. In this case, press "R." Insert any disks if prompted by the restoration program. Otherwise, permit the computer to restart as needed. b> Restore Via Disks (Generic) b> Insert the "Recovery Disk" or "System Recovery Disk." If you have more than one disk, make sure you insert "Disk 1" or "Part 1." Press any key to boot from CD if prompted to do so. Choose a "Full System Restore," "Restore Factory Settings," or another option worded similarly. Confirm that you want to perform the restoration. Press "Next," "Yes," or "OK," as needed. Press "Finish" or "Restart" when prompted by the computer. Hope this helps.

Windows xp start up disk doesn't work

if you are referring to the installaion disk

restart your computer during the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the using arrow keys scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

note this will erase you operating system you will have to have an operating system disk to load it onto you hard drive or create a partition to load another operating system
(note after you have loaded the operating system you should go back and change the first boot device to your failsafe or optimized defaults)
after windows has loaded

your computer will automatically restart it might restart 2 times one to finish the installation
the next will be because the operating system is loaded and will boot from your cd

I WANT TO RESTORE TO FACTORY SETINGS

If by restore to factory settings you mean reinstall operation system ..you need either a recovery partition or disk ..to use ..or a boot-able disk with the operation system ..
if you have teh recovery partition just press teh key indicated on start for recovery and boot from the partition and proceed for recovery ..or insert the disk ..restart and press any key when asked for to confirm boot from cd ..and proceed with the recovery ..(same way for boot-able disk )
In case it does not boot from disk ..you need to press f12 on start to get to boot menu and select the cd and press enter to force boot from disk ..confirm by any key and go on ..
If you don't have any recovery ..try to borrow or buy or make a boot-able disk ..and install the operation from it ..either by changing boot order in bios or by pressing F12 on start with the disk inside ..select boot from disk and enter ...again press any key to confirm ..and follow instructions ..If you do not know how to do it ..and you are ready to do it anyway...follow one of my services ..and I will guide you by remote assistance to make a disk ..and after that find a way to guide you trough the installing (probably messenger )

How do you reboot aspireone

I will assume that by reboot you understand reinstall the operation system and I will give you the options for it ..
First and the most simple way is to use the recovery partition some laptops came with from factory , and reinstall eh system completely .to do so you need to have one ..and to engage it press F11 on start or press f12 to get the boot menu and choose the partition for recovery from the menu and press enter .This will start it and you probably have some options for repair or reinstall from scratch ..If you do not know the exact key ..take a close look when it starts cause it is indicated on screen ..
Another way it is to use a recovery disk ..and the procedure is to start the computer with the disk inside and if it asks you to press any key to boot from the disk do it and will start the recovery ..If it does not asks it means the boot order have to be changed from bios .To do so ..press F2 on start and go to bios ..and in there select advanced settings ..and under the boot sector ..select the CD /DVD to be the first boot device ..After selecting it press F10 to save the settings and restart .It will work .
3rd posibility in case there is no recovery disk or partition available is to use a boot-able disk with the operation system on it , and same way ...Insert the disk ..be sure you select the boot device in bios ..and press any key when it asks to start installing the OS ..Or ..if you do not want to mess with bios settings ..just insert the disk ..and restart ..and press f12 right the way ..and in the boot menu ..select single action boot from disk drive ..and enter to engage ..it will ask to press key to confirm and start loading files..
When you get to the agreement you confirm it ..and after that select the C drive for to install into it ..and go on ..(I suggest to format the drive in quick mode (ntfs )

Tried installing xp, ever since at boot up it says 'invalid system disk'...

You will probably have to get another XP disc and do it.The one for your desktop isn't valid for a fresh install on your laptop i don't believe.

I suspect you have some corruption in the machines software and it will need a ram clear.

1) Enter service mode.

Press the operation panel user mode key, 2 key, 8 key and user mode key in this order.

2) Press the operation panel arrow keys to show "TEST MODE."

3) Press the OK key.

To exit test mode, press the user mode key to return to standby mode.

Scroll down to Clear and then to All. enter and the machine will reinitialise and remove all exisiting data. So it will be as it was when new. It will ask you what country you are in so just follow the prompts and all should be well.

I need to reset my laptop. It's locked and i've forgotten the password, and it won't let me get in.

If you are talking about the user password..you have no choice but reinstalling the operation system ...Use the recovery partition if you have one ..or recovery disk ..Or if non of these are a choice ..try with a boot able disk of the operation system ..
the procedure is pretty simple ..with the partition ..if it is present ..just restart he computer and press the F key for boot menu on start ..(its written on the start menu ,,usually is f12 or f11 for hp ) in the boot menu ..choose the recovery partition ..and choose complete reinstall of operation system ..It will bring it to teh factory settings ..
with the disk is a little different ..Insert the disk ..press same boot menu button ..and choose to boot from the disk ..it will ask you to press any key to confirm booting from disk ..and start the procedure..
if you use a operation system boot-able disk ..you proceed like with the recovery disk ..Insert it ..restart ...use the f12 key ..and choose teh cd /dvd as boot device ..and confirm by pressing any key ..and follow instructions ...I suggest to format the C drive before loading the files..(you will have the choice ) ..this way you get rid of any viruses for sure..
You will also need the drivers for it if you use a OS boot-able disk ...so ..download and store them before starting ..
Please ask if you have any questions ..

Computer problem, help.

This generally indicates a hard drive crash/failure, in which the hard drive will need to be replaced. Rare, but occasionally you will get this error from an operating system glitch. Before you run out and buy a new hard drive, try reloading the operating system. If you have any problems during or after the install, then the hard drive is shot.
