Water stsys in drum

Wow, you have the most problematic washer ever built. This washer was the actual demise of the Maytag Company. What happened was that when Maytag built these washers the drum was at an angle that it retained a large amount of water the drum. This caused problems with odor, bacteria and mold. There was a large class action lawsuit launched against Maytag to the point that they quit producing the washer and ultimately were facing bankruptcy, which they eventually filed for.

In regards to your problem, unfortunately there is no solution. The water residual in the water cannot be removed, the only thing you can do is make sure the door is left open, this may help in evaporating some of the water... another solution is to take a cup of chlorine bleach and poor it in the washer. "DO NOT ADD CLOTHES!" Turn on the washer to a normal wash cycle. When this has completed then make sure that the first wash you do after this a white load in case there is a residual of bleach... if there is mold on the door seal use a bathroom cleanser that will remove mold... DO NOT LEAVE CLOTHES IN WASHER FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME... THEY WILL SOUR AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REMOVE THAT SMELL ONCE IT GETS INTO CLOTHING!

I wish I had better news for you, but my guess is that you purchased this second hand and were not told of this inherent problem.

Low level of rinse water. What can I do?

Possible that the water level sensor has failed and so it does not load to the level set by the program. You will need to check the level sensor to clear the water line of air block or dirt or faulty unit.Try to set a higher water level to the program settings and see if the water fills up on rinse, choose an different program

My machine has a funny smell and mould seems to be collecting round the drum behind the rubber seal. What is the cure?

Bleach kills is a very effective mold spore killer. For killing mold you need a strong solution.

  1. The ratio is 1cup of bleach for every 10cups water. If you don't mix it like this it will not be as effective.
  2. You will run your washer on a max load with hot water (no clothes in the washer for this) and let it fully cycle through.
  3. This is gonna be real fumey so make sure you are ventilating things real good. Maybe do this during the day when the windows can be opened wide open.
  4. Bleach also stains so wear clothes that can be ruined.
  5. Wear eye ware and protective gloves.
  6. After the washer cycles all the way through run it though a rinse cycle to make sure all the bleach and mold has been removed.
  7. This will kill that mold dead.

Regards, Tony

I have front loader washing machine and the rubber has got mould and having difficulty in removing the black mould

  • Saturate an old cloth with white vinegar. Alternatively, you might use petroleum jelly on the cloth to remove the mold.Pull the gasket out gently with your hands to reveal the mold and mildew buildup inside the folds of the gasket.Wipe the mold away from the gasket with the cloth. Continue working to wipe away all mold from the folds of the rubber gasket.Dry the folds of the gasket with a dry cloth when you finish removing the mold.Repeat this procedure at least once per month to prevent mold and mildew from forming. If you notice mold occurring more frequently, clean it off when you see it.

  • Tips for Preventing Mold & Smelly Problems:
    • Always leave the door and dispenser unit slightly ajar after the laundry is done. Front-load washers and the detergent/softener dispenser drawer must dry out.
    • Never leave a wet washload in the washer overnight; remove it when the washing cycle is complete and leave the door open.
    • After a load is done, always rotate the drum with your hand to see and remove all items. Some could be sticking to top or sides of the washer drum.
    • Use softener sheets in the dryer instead of liquid softeners in the washer.
    • Liquid detergents may leave less residue than powdered formulas which may not dissolve properly.
    • Use less than the recommended detergent level for your load. Too much detergent can cause a residue build up. Experiment until you find a minimum measurement that delivers a clean wash. This is also a money saver.
    • Occasionally wash some loads such as whites, linen and towels in warm or hot water to help flush out wash residue.
    • Always clean your washer as per your product manual. High efficiency front-load models have a cleaning cycle and it's imperative that you periodically run this cycle as directed.
    • Check the gasket just inside the door opening and remove any visible debris. You can also wipe it to speed the drying process.
    • Always use HE detergents with high efficiency front-load washers. Specially marked HE laundry detergent is low sudsing and is recommended for these low-water washers.
    • If this advice was helpful a vote with the thumbs up would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Gasket seems to have pulled away from "drum" side;

Front loaders are known for building up mold and the smell.
It's caused by using liquid detergent which is made from animal fat. Use powder. And use the minimum amount.
It's caused by using fabric softener. Dilute it 50/50 with water.
It's caused by the water remaining in the tub between washes. Leave the door open to allow it to dry. .
Pull the rubber door seal back and clean the mold off .
Affresh is recommended by some manufacturers. You run it through a wash cycle with it.

Clothes stained and mold growing on rubber ring inside, constant odor despite using monthly washer clean tablets, leaving door open and draining water out of washer

Use a mixture of bleach and water in a spray bottle to kill the mold. Leave door open after washing. Also spray your drum and rinse unloaded to kill the mold on the inner drum.

Our towels and clothes have a mildew/musty smell. when I spin the stainless drum inside, i can hear water sloshing around.

Towel mildew odor is transferred from the washer to towels and clothes. The washer must be cleaned first. After cleaning the washer and towels washing habits must change to stop mold smell from returning.

Washing machine mold / mildew is caused by:
#1 cause is overuse of detergents. Detergent companies are notorious for instructing to use too much detergent. Especially with soft water or when using liquid detergent no more than 1 tbsp of any detergent should be used.
#2 most common cause is using fabric softener because it's dispensed in the rinse cycle and will coat the inside of the outer tub with residue that is a food source for mold to grow.
#3 using only cold water for washing is fine but makes preventative maintenance very important. A weekly hot soak will dissolve odor-causing residue from inside your washer.
#4 not using the washer. If the clothes washer isn't used very often maintenance is especially important. If leaving for a vacation it's a good idea to clean your washer. Do a search to "remove washer odor" to read just how big the problem is. There are all natural washer cleaners that will also remove mildew odor from towels and clothing after the washer has been cleaned.

    Water in drum

The swish water sound that you hear in the drum is normal. There is some liquid in the drum for balancing. The washer doesnt use that liquid for laundry. The odor smell - you can get rid of it by cleaning your washer. Run empty cycle with bleach and hot water at least once a month. Also use washer cleaner - Tide recommended for a nice cleaner smell. You can get it from any supermarket.

I have a Neptune 2000 stackable washer. It seems that water is always remaining in the drum after a cycle, and water is sitting in the rubber gasket at the door. I am getting mold on the gasket and odor...

All washers still have some water in them at the end of the cycle. If you wipe the door boot down with a mild bleach and water solution this will keep it from getting mold. If you don't do a bleach load on a regular basis I would run a hot wash with 1/2 cup bleach and 1/2 cup powder cascade with no clothes once a month to keep the machine cleaned out. I also always leave my door unlatched when not in use.
