Vibration when using the Sony Cyber-Shot dsc-t20

Sony have identified a problem with the DSC-T20 camera, where photos can’t be taken because of vibrating of the camera body. This is due to a mechanical problem with the lens. The problem only applies to DSC-T20’s with certain serial numbers. Sony are offering a free out of warranty repair to solve the issue. Sony Europe Public Notice

Symptom and cause
Pictures cannot be taken because of vibrating of the camera body. This is due to a mechanical problem with the lens.

The model name and serial number are located on the sticker attached to the bottom of the camera.

* Please make a backup of your camera’s internal memory data prior to sending it to Sony service center in case recorded data is lost during its repair.

i have that problem too, at the begging i would put the camera on its back laying on a flat surface and then it work again but i found out i had to keep doing this process for it to work.

Well, it seems that this is either a manufacturing defect or a defective/sub-standard part being used in the product. It would do Sony well to address this problem immediately so that all of us Sony lovers would continue to believe in their products. If this can be solved via a firmware upgrade then I hope Sony can guide us through it.

I can't find the official page where Sony offers instructions for a free repair - does anyone have the link?

I have been using Sony T-20 for about 2 years and I only experience the vibration now. The weirdo thing is that it only vibrates after few shots. What should I do? Should I bring it to camera shop to repair or let it be and get a new one.

Delete all files and scan the camera with the latest antivral software. It has worked for me!

me too. im am filipina and my DSC-T20 has this vibrating problem too! my boyfriend gave it to only dec of 2007 and the vibrations keep happening and it's sickening to see this gift close to being useless... help!

Hello there. Bought my T20 just last december and as early as January 9, I am already experiencing vibration on my camera. Don't know what is the solution to this problem but whenever it is time for me to bring it to the vendor, it came back to normal mode. Today is the 2nd time I experienced vibration 04/22/2008.
