  • parmeet Feb 26, 2008

Ya! The first 2 months i enjoyed the T20 i bought from MD Mustafa in Singapore. Than suddenly i started getting the "vibrations" rendering the camera almost useless. When the camera is "cold" i can shoot say 7-10 pictures and the screen starts vibrating. I feel that he software that stabilizes the picture goes hay wire. Please help as Sony India washes their hand off any product not bought from Sony India.

I cannot believe Sony's camera would have these problems. HELP!!!!

I kind of feel good now that i find there are others who have faced similar problems. my e mail id is :

Seems like many people have this annoying problem. I just filled out a repair form at The camera does have a 1 year warranty so I will try that and see what happens. Hopefully Sony can give me a new DSC-T20.

I bought my Sony DSC-T20 at Harvey Norman's Electrical in Dec 2007 and started vibrating six months after but the problem persisted and became worst after the 12 months warranty expired. So frustrating because it such an expensive camera! Does anyone know if Sony fixing them outside the warranty period for free?

Well, it seems that this is either a manufacturing defect or a defective/sub-standard part being used in the product. It would do Sony well to address this problem immediately so that all of us Sony lovers would continue to believe in their products. If this can be solved via a firmware upgrade then I hope Sony can guide us through it.

Hello, I posted my solution here yesterday with two photos but I don't see it anywhere here.

  • Irwin Zosa May 18, 2008

I posted a propsed solution about 3 days ago but sadly it did not come out here. so here it is again but in a more condensed form. The image stabilization lens "rides" on a sled that is physically coupled to a permanent magnet and moves on two axes. Below this magnet are about four coils that are each individually controlled by the stabilization system. For some reason this system goes haywire and causes this lens to just vibrate about wildly, causing the blur that you see in your LCD display. I tried disconnecting the connection to the coils but the camera needs to "see" these coil loads so it gives out an error code. What I will try next is to take off the permanent magnet although by doing this the lens might still move about because the coils will no longer be able to hold the lens steady. Anyway, I will try this out and maybe secure the lens permanently to stop it from moving. This will render the stabilization system useless. I will soon post the results of this solution. I am taking this approach because I don't want to pay for it to be repaired by the manufacturer as I am planning to give this to my brother and get myself a new Canon.

  • Irwin Zosa May 26, 2008

    Hello again:

I already removed the permanent magnet that floats in the stabilizing coils and now the nasty vibration is gone. Optical image stabilization (primary anti-blur) is also non-existent now but with the zoom range of this camera, you can't zoom in that close to the point of having camera shake. The secondary anti-blur system is merely an auto-high ISO shift. In the photos I have placed the magnet on the left side of the lens-shift mechanism.

  • nunmoreblack May 13, 2011

I followed the advice that this guy gave and now my camera works fine!!!!!!!!!! It takes a little work to find the mechanism with the magnet, but it totally works when you take the magnet out! The bottom most zooming lens floats and slide on two axles, the long axle being removable by sliding it out and this allows you to remove the lens and lens tab so you can remove the opposing magnet mechanism that once controlled the anti shake thingy. Lotsa lil screws but in about an hour or two you can have a working camera again! Just remember to clean all the lenses with alcohol and q tip so you wont have permanent blurred pictures. It won't be fun opening this thing a second time to clean everything!

I have been using Sony T-20 for about 2 years and I only experience the vibration now. The weirdo thing is that it only vibrates after few shots. What should I do? Should I bring it to camera shop to repair or let it be and get a new one.

Please help!

The same fault exists in the DSC T2 but Sony refuse to offer the same repair. Hardly good customer service when they acknowledge the fault is down to them but won't repair it!

Camara vibrates

Hi kundaj,

I wish there was a simple solution, but sadly there isn't.
It's the camera's lens motor system that's gone bad. Best thing you can do I think is get a replacement if you can and then extend warranty.
