Camcorder will not turn on without being plugged

My camcorder will not turn on without being plugged in, and it is fully charged.

I thought it had something to do with the settings but I can't figure it out.

Normally all you would have to do is open the display screen and it would come right on. Now nothing happens until you plug it up. I've also tried pressing the power button but that doesn't work either.

Any ideas?

If the camera is turning on and is able to be used normally while plugged in to an AC wall pack, but not using the battery, there is probably a problem with either the battery or the internal power switch to go from AC to battery.

Check the battery with a voltmeter to insure you have a fully charged battery. It would also be a good idea to use the voltmeter on the camcorders power tabs to make sure the camcorder is passing the correct voltage to the battery. The amount of volts should match the volts on the battery.

If it's a battery issue, batteries plus has a replacement for this camcorder. If not, it's a switch within the camera (software most likely) and there's not much you can do other that try to reload the camcorders firmware if it is available fromt eh Insignia-Products web site.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: The camcorder just shut down,

This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Why won't batteries charge?

Those chargers are designed to turn solid green when the batteries are fully charged. When batteries are less than new and have some time on them they will not charge as much as a new one. It is conceivable that either the battery condition is not the best there is or that perhaps there may be something wrong with the charger.

I suspect it is the new batteries not being so new.

Charging the Sansa Clip player

If you leave your Sansa plugged into your charging source (wall charger, computer, car etc.), your player might still remain fully charged and just on. If you can, you may want to just leave it plugged into your charging source until you want to use it, so it stays fully charged. When its done, it will say fully charge...it should take a couple hours to charge the device....

Also, does your player have an auto power off or idle sleep setting? You can use this setting to set the amount of time you want your Sansa to automatically turn off after you don't use or listen to music on it.

Battery Charge Light not working & can't display battery info

This sounds similar to a problem I had. I brought the camera in under warranty and the repair shop fixed it. They shop text is cryptic.
Problem: Camera light keeps flashing, not charge
Solution: Troubleshoot to intermittent switch block control, replace with new one, test OK.

Draining battery

This camera has had problems with the primary switch block faulting. The camera will power up all by itself when unattended and drain the battery. Another symptom would be the battery refuses to charge fully because the camera must remain in the "OFF" mode for the charge process to begin. Sony in Laredo, TX is replacing these controls at little or no cost, I would call them to see if they will repair this for you. Hope this helps you. Sony dcr-trv22

Just FYI, www.silentwitness.com has Sony modify the camcorders for use in mobile applications so they don't shutdown. I have no cure for this, but I do know the stock models are programmed to do this to prevent overheating. It has to do a lot with the warranty. i.e. you have a one year warranty. The unit can't (without modifications) run 24x7. Said modification almost triples the price of the camera.
