Question about Nikon D40x Digital Camera

1 Answer

It seems like the SD isn't being caught into the SD slot. I place in the SD card and have tried others, but the card will not stay.

Thanks for the response.  The card is just not catching at all no matter how much I place the card in.  Also, I've tried the tape, but the camera won't recognize it. ON that note, I had left the card in their for a month and for some reason it sorta started to work with an error on the camera saying that the card may be bad or something like that.  When I attempting to place a different card, it also clipped in and got the same error.  I took it out and placed in the other one again and then it stopped catching again.  Any idea why that maybe happened, where it worked for a sec and then went back to not catching?

Well if you already realize this I apologize, but you may not realize that the SD slot has a built in ejector. The way you make the card eject is to push it further into the slot, and then it pops out.

It works like a mechanical pencil.

So if that got pushed to the eject position, and you then just put the card in, put not enough to switch it out of the eject position, it could pop right back out.

So try pushing it far in and see if it clicks into place.

If you have tried this and the same thing has happened, it could be a faulty card catch that needs to be repaired. Some cards have a funny shape that just don't fit right, If you can't get the camera fixed right now, you can:
1.) put some scotch-tape around the SD Card to make it fit into the slight a little tighter.

2.) file down the end of the SD Card so its flush with the phone.

cameras and memory cards are really touchy sometimes. I have read so many forums and threads about people buying the correct SD cards and their cameras just won't work with them even though they are the required SD Card. A couple people i've spoken with went through several of the cards and eventually found one that just happened to work. Some cards are just better than others I guess. I do know the contacts inside the camera that contact the memory card's contacts can develop a film-like coating and it makes it harder to read the cards. You can use a cotton swab and dip it in rubbing alcohol and carefully wipe the camera's contacts. you will likely get a black marks on the cotton swab showing that the contacts are somewhat dirty and filmy even if they don't look like it. Just be careful that there isn't so much alcohol that it drips inside camera. This may help your situation.

Suddenly and unexpectedly I cannot insert my SD card won't click into place is there anything I can try myself or do I need to take my camera to be repaired?

First check to see the tiny switch on the side is in the on position, then flip the card over and try inserting the SD card. If same problem persist, check to see if there is any foreign element caught up in the card slot. You could use a small paper clip (pull it into a length of wire first) to probe the opening, then knock it gently on you palm to see if anything falls out. This will clear any obstruction in the compartment. You can insert the card by trial and cleaning several times.

Installing SD card in desktop

try using an adapter that you can use to put the sd card in and plug it into the USB drive. The only thing I can come up with is either there is a lock on the sd card, or that slot isn't designed for sd cards but for other cards.

SD card won't stay in the slot of my Panasonic Lumix DMC-SL80

is the lock on the card by chance. also depending on how old the camera is and how big the sd card is in gb. the lumix may not be able to handle that size of card, too many gb. My lumix would only accept up to 4 gb, so when I moved to 16 they did not work.

Memory card error

Make sure your camera can take San Disk. It probably takes a certian card or the SD card might be upside down. Some brand and models stay this fault and the problem with the SD is that it does not accept a memory card higher than 1GB. This info isn't in the user guide. Have you tried an external usb card reader?

Pull the card out and re-insert. the most likely problem is the card was not seated properly in the slot.

I just removed the SD card to view some pictures and now when I put it back in it will not latch and stay down. I have tried two other cards as well and none will latch and stay down. They do not seem to...

The first thing that comes to mind is to make sure you have it in the right direction. You should have the metal connectors of the CD card facing AWAY from the batteries. Even if the card fits the other direction, it is a must to have the connectors the right way.

Some CD cards are affected in use by whether or not they are locked or unlocked. Even if you don't remember locking the card, those things can be slid pretty easily. Check to see if perhaps your card got moved to the "locked" position. (The lock is a miniscule little slider to the left of the label on most SD cards. It should be at the TOP to be unlocked, unless your brand has printed directions that differ on the card itself.)

Also, you can always try turning the camera upside down with the battery door open. Don't hit it, but if there was a little piece of dirt, it would hopefully fall out.

The SD cards need a little quick push to lock into place, and need a quick push to unlock as well.

If you check on all of these, and it still isn't locking into place, it is possible that there is a bent pin on the SD card. I haven't experienced a camera that had a problem with the SD slot yet in 8 yrs of owning digitals, but I have had bent card pins...

I hope one of those helps you.

Hi friend,

Can you find the prompt text "TF(SD) card" and arrow keys when you open the back cover? If so,you just need to insert the SD card to have a try to see if it's the real slot.If not,you can try to find one slot that looks like the sim card slot,it may be the SD card slot.Try to find the place that has the chip.

SD card does not seem to fit in the SD card slot

Is the SD card a mini type or a standard SD card?
The standard SD card is 24mm wide X 32mm long.
If it is a mini SD card you need to purchase a mini SD to standard SD adapter, then you will be able to insert it in your Compaq.

Why cant I download my waypoint data to a 2 GB SD card. My Global map 5000c does not recognise the 2GB SD card. Do I need MMC/SD. Can I place the sd card in the slot beside the chart card ?. Thanks

You can place the SD card into the slot beside the chart card.

With the SD card in the GlobalMap unit by itself (take the chart card out), press MENU twice and choose BROWSE FILES. Does the unit indicate that an SD card is present? If yes, the card is working fine in that slot. Try the same thing in the other slot. If it only recognizes the SD card in one of the slots, the other slot is bad and probably won't work with any card. If the card is recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu, but the data that is on the card is not working, there could be compatibility issues with the data and the GlobalMap 5000.

Make sure the GlobalMap 5000 has the latest software update from You might need to get a different, smaller capacity card since your 2GB is not working.

If the 2GB SD card still isn't recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu after the update, the GlobalMap 5000 is not going to work with that 2GB card. You will want to get a different card. I suggest 1GB and smaller.

If this doesn't help, please let me know some more details. Is the 2GB SD card recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu. What are you seeing that makes you determine it does not recognize this card? What files are currently on this card? What kind of card is it (brand, model).
