Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

When turned on it makes a loud clicking sound like a gear is mal-functioning. I tried to get the cover off to expose the gear train of the paper loader but to no avail. How do I get to the paper loading gear train and if I did what is your prognosis?

Move the ink carrier to the left. restore the white traveler with the ink wipers to its correct position by using long screwdriver and pulling the ****** toward the front of the printer. then throughly clean the ink off of the plastic parts using ammonia water. it's tough but don't give up.

then replace the ink dump console.

I have Brother MFC 7820N printer. It has a loud clicking sound on the left rear end and paper will not feed, sometimes the first page will print and no paper message will be shown? Can you please help

It sounds like a displaced drive gear in the gear chain to the fuser. If you remove the covers and the fuser unit you should be able to manually turn the gears to check for jams or slips. Make sure all ther gears are correctly seated and no missing teeth.

No paper pickup, Press check

1. Push the paper far inside / use the priority tray.
2. Check for deterioration of the rubber on the main pickup roller (Replace if needed).
3. Ensure that the main paper pickup roller (view inside the printer from the priority input slot - use a torchlight) is rotating when print command is given / 'check' button is pressed after the error message.
4. The printer will make three attempts, one after the other, to pickup the paper (you should be able to hear the sound of main motor and gear train rotating - if no sound is heard the main motor / gear train is bad).
5. If the paper pickup roller does not rotate - a component in the gear train needs attention / replacement.
6. The gear train is behind the formatter inside the right side cover.
7. Service manual can be downloaded free on the net.

The Magimix makes a terrible (loud and harsh but short) clicking sound when turned on, either regular or pulse. It sounds ok when running and performs its functions as usual. This is happening ever since I...

you might have damaged the gear-train, Depending on what you payed for this unit it might be best to put up with it for as long as you can and purchase a new one when it brakes down

cost of repairs can easly equal or exeed the cost of a new unit with warenty

Best regards Falco

Will not pick up paper. It makes a loud clicking

Check the tab at the end of the paper tray, needs to be right on the arrow for your paper size, too tight won't allow picking up paper. If OK, take out paper tray and set on a table, the gear closest to the table has a flat area that needs to be level with the bottom of the tray or the table. If slanted up you need to bend the paper lifter bar under the front edge of the paper so that the gear is level again.

Keeps saying no paper Makes loud clicking noise

The clicking sounds seems to be made by the small gears on the side of the tray. When you move the gears, it should push a plate beneath the paper upwards, and the paper with it, allowing the paper to be feed.

I'm not sure what I did to fix it. I removed the paper and cleaned both feeding rectangles (to the front of the tray -- nearest you). One is underneath the paper and the other is in the front, center.

I then made sure that, when I move the biggest gear (the one that isn't round) that the paper moves upwards.

try cleaning the tires with alcohol, see if they pick up.

are they real smooth to the touch or do they have a rough edge?

the loud clicking sound maybe a clutch or gear trying to engage and is slipping.

Makes loud sounds

I had the same problem with the loud grinding sound. The gears on the cartridge(s) is not turning but rather stripping creating a grinding sound. Reinstall all of the toner cartridges. If that doesn't work, pull each cartridge out and manually turn the gear on the cartridge. If the problem persists, you may need to purchase a new toner cartridge.
