Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer

2 Answers

The cycle doesn't advance prior to the rinse cycle, unless I bang the lid down. Sometimes takes a few trys then it starts up again and finishes out the cycle. Is my timer going out? Is this an expensive fix?? Should we think about getting a new washer? It is approx. Ten or Eleven years old.

Look on the lid. see where the prong is.
look on the washer where the prong goes. try to clean that spot, lots of times it's got a build up of lint . the initial wash cycle will moisten the build up preventing it to function properly.

Mommy20255 is spot on to the solution. The prong/latch assembly in my machine is broken. As it is wired into the machine, I will have to call a repairman, but she led me straight to the problem. Top loader washing machine stops mid cycle and won't finish rinsing or spin cycle. Any ideas?

Check the lid closure switch. This keeps the unit from spinning if the top lid is open, as a safety interlock. The switch gets a lot of abuse, as the lid sometimes slams down and damages the switch. If the switch is damaged, the washer will stop before the final rinse, or spin, depending upon the model. This can be repaired, but takes a bit of work. I did mine myself, with great results. If you are not inclined in that direction, have it repaired. It costs far less than a new washer.

What's wrong with washer that won't start again?

Check the door safety switch. Sometimes you can rock the lid left and right and close it back it might clear what's blocking the switch. Make sure you have the washer on.

My Kenmore washer is not draining or rinsing

Check the lid down safety switch. On the lid there is a small spike that goes through a hole when the lid is down.
Under the hole is a switch that allows the timer to advance and the washer to spin only when the lid is down. Two screws hold the switch in place and the plastic switch will sometimes break and be hanging by the wires.

In other words, it is the timer. That is stopping the advance. You may have to replace the timer.

Kenmore washing machine model 110 wash cycle stops

DOES IT DO THIS ON EVERY WASH OR SOMETIMES? IF SOMETIMES, CHECK LID SWITCH( THERE'S A LITTLE HOLE WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, ON THE LID SHOULD HAVE A LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES IN THAT HOLE. THE SWITCH IS UNDER, INSIDE THAT HOLE. YOU CAN GET A PEN OR KEY TO SEE IF IT'S BROKEN.)

Maytag SAV5910aww will not always drain. Fills and agitates fine but will go through entire cycle without draining. Will sometimes give end of cycle buzz sometimes not. If I am in the room and lift the lid...

"I have found spinning the timer back to begining of rinse cycle first helps". The timer only rotates clockwise; counterclockwise rotation can destroy it.

Washer Doesn't move from cycle to cycle

this washer has a problem with the lid hinge screws coming loose. check the left hand hinge and you will find the screws loose.
this cause the lid switch to not engage and then nothing will happen until it thinks the lid is closed.
try to tighten the screws and listen to see if the switch "clicks" when you open and close the lid.
that should fix it until the screws come loose again.
