SOURCE: LG swivel base

Just look at where the base goes in. There should be 4 screws that are holding it on.

SOURCE: LG flatron L1718s monitor switches on for a split second then goes off

check that the monitor is indeed the problem, plug the montior into a different pc or laptop and see if it works.

if so then borrow a monitor from somewhere plug it in to your pc and see what happens if it does not produce a picture then check that your graphics card is seated correctly in your motherboard.

also this is where it gets tricky, but if the graphics card is AGP make sure that your bios is set to use the AGP (not PCI) as it's primary or vice versa if it's a PCI graphics card.
(I say tricky because you may not be able to view anything if you don't have or can't borrow a different type of graphics card ie try a PCI one if you have AGP) to do this step you will need to install a spare card.

if you still have no joy but you get the monitor to display something when it is plugged into the different PC, at least you know the monitor is not at fault.

SOURCE: LG 1718S-BN comp monitor, power light off; monitor won't display.

I know this may seem simple to you, and I'm not talking about the power light. Your monitor tilts up and down at the top of the stem connected to the base. At the top, where the stem connects to the back of the monitor is the hinge that allows the monitor to tilt up and down and it should be covered in plastic. You should be able to see what looks like a metal rod going through the stem and the monitor. If you squeeze together the plastic on both sides, they should come off to reveal the screws that hold the stem to the monitor.

As far as the power goes ... my first thought is a fuse (won't turn on and no power LED) or something has blown your power supply.

After you get it open let me know what you see.

I have a LG Flatron L1718S; the screen display for 2 sec and then turn Black.

If the power light remains on after it goes black, the problem is the inverter board that powers the back light behind the screen, the cause is usually bad capacitors. To fix it, the board must be replaced or attempt made to repair the inverter board.

When i turn my computer on the monitor flickers for a second then just goes black. at the start i can see the desktop but after that it goes black lg flatron l1718s

You may have problem in the power supply, common causes are the bad capacitors (bulging top/seal, or leaking). That will be the first place to check. I will assume that you have already try it with another PC and it still does not work. See pictures here for a guide so you know what to look for inside:

Post back what you find so it will help out other people also.

scaillos, Try YOUTUBE for video clips of "lcd monitor disassembly" and or "lcd monitor repair". Don't use any sharp edged cutting tools like kitchen knives or you will incur additional monitor repair costs that will be paid to local hospital "ER" !!! Might find interesting stuff at and , , Start at lower edge of monitor and look for small slot to inset something to pry with. Good luck. Be careful. 12fixlouie

Monitor Stand

You have to lay the monitor face down, then pull the column hard at an angle until one side clicks out, then pull to get the whole thing off. It's detailed in the manual on the LG website.
