Question about HP DeskJet 5650 InkJet Printer

4 Answers

I did something incredibly stupid and need help. My PC contracted a virus and my printer stopped working. I thought the way to fix this was to delete and re-install the printer. I removed all HP programs and deleted the printer, then tried to reinstall the software and drivers with my disk. Naturally this didn't work. Is there any way to undo all of the damage I've done?

I did do a full system scan and am confident that all the viruses have been cleaned. What I'm trying to find out is if there's any way that I can recover the HP program files I deleted in error, and get my software & drivers CD to work so that I can reinstall the printer. Currently it's not recognizing the printer hardware.

Hi Adnan - I tried the System Restore, but wasn't able to select the day before I deleted the printer drivers, which was February 2nd. It instructed me to select a date on the calendar in bold print, and the day before (February 1st) wasn't in bold print. I tried February 2nd, where I saw that at 7:30 p.m. I had deleted the files, and selected an earlier select point (6:30 pm) in the hopes that this might work. It came back with an error message. I then tried earlier dates in January, and each time it came back that it was unable to do a System Restore for that date. I can see that the files were deleted on 2/2 - but how can I get them back?

I responded to your solution last night, and want to continue working with you. I tried the System Restore but couldn't get it to work. The day before I removed the files wasn't an option for me to select (i.e,, it wasn't in bold print), and I tried several other days close to it, but got an error message each time. Is there any other way you can suggest for me to retrieve the HP programs I removed? I tried to download and use Recuva, but was completely lost trying to figure out what to recover. Another of the gurus is suggesting that I reinstall my operating system, which I am absolutely terrified to do. Thanks.

Hi,

Try a system restore. Open Windows help from the start menu and Type System Restore and hit the search button. It will provide a short cut.

Restore your system to a day before you deleted your printer drivers. If everything goes well you should be again using your printer after a restore.

In this case Recuva or any other recovery software may not help you. You should try downloading the drivers from the HP website instead of using the CD.

Here is a direct link. Click here. Click on the appropriate link for your OS.

Follow the instructions completely and if an error message is generated, paste it here so I can investigate.

I would like to know whether you have deleted or uninstalled the installed printer files? For complete uninstall you should use Revo uninstaller (search google).

As a reminder, printer driver files should be installed with the printer disconnected. The driver will ask you to connect the printer at the right moment.

Hello,

If you are using Vista or XP (Home or Pro) you can use the system restore to "turn" your system back to a time that it worked. You can find this under Start>All Programs>Accessories>System tools>System Restore. Once there just follow the on screen instructions.

This is what I would recommend 1st. Post your results and we can go from there.

Good Luck

Some virus affects system restore files, system files, printer drivers and networks. If you have already reinstalled the printer driver and it still did not work, you could try to repair your Operating System by reinstalling and choosing the repair option. Then, reinstall the printer driver. If that also fails to work you have no other choice but to reformat your drive and do a fresh install of the Operating System and all your programs including the printer driver.

Did you make full system scan for viruses ? If no , then do that ! Some viruses won't allow you to install anything correctly .
Is your Anti Virus updated ? If not , then update it . Is it a stubborn
virus ? Then enter the system in [safe mode] and try to scan again.
After system cleaned , you'll be able to install everything again correctly .

good luck .
