Even with disk in the drive we cannot access it.

The drive is definitely F. E is the CD drive, D is the system and F the DVD

I've tried replacing the IDE cable and reinstalling drivers. uninstalling drivers. re-booting without it connected. rebooting now connected.. reinstalling drivers... still no good. These drives are ****. I'm about to try updating firmware as it would seem pioneer has released many versions for this drive as they had trouble getting it right. probably a stupid vista thing. bl00dy microshaft

Had to roll back my computer now i cant find the install disc for my hp 940d dvd need the nero and light scribe disc any info would help

If the DVD-writer was factory-installed, then you can contact HP, and order a replacement CD that will contain the NERO and LightScribe software.
Cost will be under $20 for the CD, and about $20 for courier-delivery.

Or, instead of NERO, access http://www.MajorGeeks.com
and download "Ashampoo Burning Edition 6". It is _free_ software.
Version 9 of the software is better, but it's not free.

I don't have any substitutes for the LightScribe software.

LG GH22 dvd writer - not reading

I had the same problem with the GH22 Internal drive on vista. Assuming this is the only cd drive you have, just go to the device manager and remove/uninstall anything under "DVD/CD Rom Drives" then restart. It should get picked up and recognized properly. It took a couple of restarts to work. For refrence, I only have the LG GH22NP20 installed, what appears in device manager are 2 items... (1)HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20 SCSI CdRom Device... (2) KU1051Q EAG855E SCSI CdRom Device... Incase you have multiple cd drives, this should help tell em appart. Enjoy. IDK399

About my dvd writer

The issue can be either with the Hardware or the software.

Make sure that this issue happens wiht all the CDs or DVDs you are using or able to used eariler.

First, check if the DVD Drive is listed in My Computer or not.

If yes, try uninstalling the DVD Drive from the Device manager by following the steps :

Right Click on My Computer and select Properties in the list.

Now go to Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button.

Device Manager window opens in a seperate window.
Now click on the [+] mark next to DVD/CD Rom Drives to expand the tree.

Right click on the DVD Drive entry and select Uninstall.

Confirm if you get any message and close the Device Manager and restart the Notebook so that the DVD Drive Drivers will be reinstalled automatically.

Uninstalling DVD Drive Drivers in Vista :

Click on the Start Menu and type in Device Manager in the search field.

Click on the Device Manager from the results which will open the Device manager window.

Follow the same instructions to uinstall it.

If you find the yellow ! marks in the Device Manager, you may have to do some modifications in the Registry by following the instructions in the links below :

For XP :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

For Vista :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us

you may have either the Upper or Lower filter or both.

Delete both of them and restart the Notebook.

Finally, try removing and reseating the DVD Drive from the instructions available in the Manual in page number 135 of 310 :

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01035657.pdf

If the issue repeats, issue can be with Hardware.

My LG CD Writer ejects automatically without any operations...

This is normally as sign that the writer is faulty, especially if ejecting on your pc's start up. Just go through this first to check if it's just a driver fault. Go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager and look down the list for your cd/dvd drives and click the '+' sign then highlight your dvd drive and right click to delete. Restart the pc and windows will find the drive again automatically and install the drivers
