Check your USB ports and cable. If you have the unit plugged into a hub, try directly connecting to the computer. (A bus-powered hub is at higher risk but failures are known with both.) Try swapping to a new port (if you are already directly connected to the computer). Check if a known working device works in the port. Ports can burn out under some situations.

Try a brand new cable as well. In some cases, you might want to try unplugging the power connection as well as the USB cable to clear any issues on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Can print but cant scan on HP J3680

Hello try to renew the software from here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3441026&

Please select your windows system 32 or 64 bit version.
And click next.
Uninstall ALL the old software before you install the new one.
Disconnect the USB cable while you install the new software
and put it back in when the installation program tells you so.

I can`t tell you about the firmware because you have not written what
windows version you have.

Good luck

USB not recognised by the computer

There are few possibilities. 1. You device is broken 2. You usb port is broken 3. Your device was previously installed on different port and now windows cant recognize it on this port.
Solution: Try to plug in your device to different usb slot.

Well, you are no very specific, but, I think you must have problem to install your printer that's very common (i had the same problem too) and after install CD the holy printer it's not recognized in our PC right?, well the solution is simple, you must plug the printer into the power source, connect the USB to printer, but NO CONNECT the USB at computer until the installation program ask for it, because if you plug all and run the CD, it's sure that will no recognize the printer

if you uisng Usb cable. then install the driver first. connect usb cable and switch on the printer if it only asks you to do so. if it is not picking up the printer on usb mod. then check under device manager. if usb devices have any exclamation mark on it. to get to device manager right click on my computer icon on desktop go to properties. select the hardware tab and click on device manager on hardware page.

Hp printer f2180...usb device not recognise

Mate, I gave up completely for the night when I got mine and had similar issues. Some help though.....
First, make sure the USB Port is a 'powered' port (i.e. one that's in your PC or Laptop and not from a plug in HUB). That's needed. Secondly, the install software is ****, so I ended up installing the drivers by downloading them and the install tool from the following website (you can't do it form the CD):
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_product=3177559&h_tool=software&h_lang=en
Just select the Printer Only driver. Once done, this doesn't present the device to your PC as a printer, so you have to go into the Control-Panel / Printers and Faxes / Add Printer and add it manually. you'll be asked to select the PORT for the device, and you need to select USB Virtual Printer Port. Then it will just go through whatever it goes through and install it. When you next Reboot, it will then install all of the other stuff to link it to the generic HP software it loaded off the CD. Seems to do that all by itself. Good Luck.
