Frigidaire Refridgerator not cooling. Worked for about 2 weeks after replacing defroster

The first thing you want to do is open the freezer and see if the fan inside there is running. The reason is the freezer cools the refrigerator side by circulating air from the freezer. If the fan is running then your problem is one or more parts of the defrost system is malfunctioned and in return your problem arises. There are three parts to the system, the defrost timer or in some cases control board, defrost thermostat also known as a bi-metal, and the defrost heater. The defrost system is set up to operate as so. The defrost timer or control board will turn the machine off, in some cases every 8 hours, some 12. During this time period the defrost heaters, located behind the freezer wall and rest underneath the evaporator, yet wires to them run up the side of it, are energized and emit heat that raises upward to melt the ice that has formed on the evaporator coils. The bi-metal or defrost thermostat is at the top of the evaporator. When the heat from the heater starts to reach the bi-metal, it breaks the circuit turning the heater off. The whole purpose of this is because the freezer cool the refridgerator side by drawing air across the coils and blowing to the other side via the evap fan motor. In my opinion, if you change one part of the defrost system change them all because usually when one part fails another will follow, so save yourself the time and the food loss, the cost difference is minute

LG elecrocool refridgerator not cooling

it is mos tlikely frosting up on the evaporator, this shows up as frost on the back wall of the freezer that means its not self defrosting, check the defrost system, defrost termination therms can go bad, and need replacement, defrost elements can short out, defrost board if it has one may be bad.

I have a GE side by side refrigerator, model GSL85JFPHBS. It sstopped working altogether last month. first the refrigerator stopped working, two day later the freezer part stopped working. I had someone...

I think you meant you have a GSL25JFPHBS (not 85).
It sounds like you have a defrost problem. If your refrig. was off for some time, like a day or more, or it was manually defrosted, it would work for about 2 weeks before the problem would re-occuer. This is caused by a build up of frost on the cooling coils, preventing air flow over them. Un-load the freezer and remove shelves and the back wall inside the freezer. Melt the frost with a hair blower, and replace the defrost heater (part # WR51X10055) and for good measure, replace the defrost thermistor (part # WR55X10025) located at the top of the cooling coils.

My refrigerator is cool but cool enough and so is my freezer cool, but not cold enough to freeze anything. It seems that the motor is running.

Your refrigerator's defrost heater is not working. The frig's cooling coils are frozen up because the defrost switching unit needs replacing. It is a cheep fix. Call a refrigerator repairman and have it replaced. Max cost is around $ 100.00 mike micmor68@gmail.com
to prove this turn off refrigerator a couple of hours with the doors open and you will notice water appear on your floor as unit defrosts and it is more water than your defrost pan can hold. As it overfills it will spill over onto your floor. If you turn it back on it will work properly for about two weeks and it will start the problem again. mike micmor68@gmail.com

sounds like a defrost problem ...
maybe the heater or defrost thermostat is bad...

he should bypass the timer and jump the heater to see if its woking...if not then i would remove the heating element for further testing. if the heater checked ok..it would only leave the defrost timer to blame.

good luck
