Hi, You have to change the boot order in the system BIOS. i think it is set to try to boot from the network first before it tries to boot from the Hard Drive
You will have to change it to boot from hard drive first.

I'm not 100% but try it.
I hope I have helped you, if you need more help, let me know.

Regards - Anthony

You are trying to boot from the NIC (Network Interface Card) (your ethernet cable connection. You don't supply the make or model, so I'll have to wing it. You will need to get into the Setup screen. Depending on the BIOS you have, it will be (usually) either Delete, or F2, or Esc. during boot. Start by pressing Delete repeatedly immediately after powering on laptop. If it does not go into setup, repeat trying F2; if this doesn't work, repeat trying Esc. Once you get into the Setup screen, you are looking for something like Boot Order or Boot Priority. You need to set your laptop so that the C: drive is the first boot device (it will be probably called the HDD). Once you have managed that, click Save and Exit. there may be an F10 shortcut to Save and Exit, and the BIOS will usually ask if you are sure.

Toshiba satellite L455D-S5976 PXE-E61 media test failure...brand new hard drive What do I do???

You need to boot from an installation CD for the operating system, or the Toshiba restore set. New hard drives are completely blank when you purchase them. The computer is looking for something to boot from and cant find it, so it trys to boot from ethernet. Check your bios set up for boot order and boot devices. You might try disabling boot from network.

Hope this helps

HI there,
The "Error" texts saying:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Are completely normal. This simply states that there is no external cables plugged into the specialty inputs on your toshiba laptop.

The "operating system not found" is stating that your existing hard drive is either A) dead or B) been erased.

Try to re-install your operating system, if it finds no hard drive, you'll need a new one!

I can not get my laptop to start up. When it turns on it reads PXE-E61: Media test failure check media cable PXE-MoF:exiting PXE ROM Operating System not found. Any ideas on what is wrong?

hi lawson1377,

it seems it can't find a bootable device in your laptop therefore trying to boot from network.

Get in the BIOS an see if the harddrive is listed and to see if the boot order is correct.

good luck.

Lap top will go any futher than entry screen...

This is a normal set of messages for a computer that is configured to attempt to boot off of a network server. Most home computers and laptops don't normally do this. If you never saw this before, booting from the network is probably the last try the computer makes before giving up. Basicially it is telling you that there is no valid boot device to start the computer from. It used to use your hard drive, but now it cannot because it has been disabled in the BIOS or the hard drive has died. You can check this by hitting the key to enter the BIOS Setup program (generally F10 or Del, it tells you when it is booting up) and making sure that the system does see your hard drive properly in the BIOS and ensuring that it is either first or second in the boot order.

Not always the Hard drive, boot into the bios setup utility and de-select network bootfrom the boot options. If it tries to network boot first you will always get that failure.
