Question about Riso RZ390 Duplicator

I have a riso duplicator RZ390, THE PROBLEM IS THE MACHINE ASK ME TO REPLACE THE INK WHEN THE TUBE STILL FULL OR HALF OF INK,I HAVE TO PUSH THE CYLINDER MANUALLY; I USE A COMPATIBLE INK, AND I CHANGE TO ANOTHER KIND OF INK BUT STILL COMPATIBLE AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM; I USE COMPATIBLE INK FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS AND NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM; DO YOU THINK CAN BE THE INK PUMP?

There's no problem in machines, the problem is the RF tag on the tube of the ink. The rf tag prints only 20- 25 thousand pass, possible cause of ur half ink bottle is on the rf tag. maybe you reached the maximum number prints on that tube.

in many units the problem occurs due to using compatible cartridges.but as you mentioned that you have been using this compatible inks for last 3 years.so its quite clear that the problem is the ink pump.its actually not releasing the ink for printing and so its showing the message to replace ink. ----- but yes there is a problem with compatible cartridges.in original and in compatible there is a bit difference in the quality of ink.in original the ink is very thin and diluted and very much refined ink.but in compatible the ink is 50 % more thicker then the original.so due to this thick ink this ink gets jammed and dried up in the ink pump so this makes the pump bit clogged and very much dried/worn out type. ----- First try cleaning the pump with clean water by removing it from the unit.but if cleaning does not helps then the other option is to get the new pump from local printer/copier repair center. Its possible that the ink drum has not correctly installed. Check your RZ390 Owners Manual for this subject and the troubleshooting and error codes for solve.

Sometimes, the label on the ink cartridge oulet surface has come off or surface is with dirt, this problem appear.

ink overflow --inside the printing drum there's a small circuit with two pin ( like needles)....there is one shorter than the other, they are very thin... you have to clean them with a small swab and alcohol, be very carefull, don't bend them....hope this be usefull to you :)

Change ink color


first you have to drain the ink... to do this after making a master with a heavy image on it.
1. turn off the machine and start it up while holding left and right print position buttons. when machine starts up you will see a number ... press the c or stop or yellow clear to reset that to 0000.
2. place paper in the paper tray and enter 888 and press start.
3. the machine will start printing .. let it print jntil the image is very light and press stop.
4. press the c clear or stop button to reset display to 0000
5.place the new color you want into the drum and enter code 890 and perss start.
6. hold down the yellow reset button u til the machine restarts.
7. all done! but please note you will have color mixing and banding for a few thousnad copies until the old color gets purged, there is no way around this.

I have a Risograph RZ390ui. About a week ago, with my green drum installed, it began telling me to replace the ink cartridge, even though it wasnt empty. Now I cannot get that drum to work. Now, the same...


It is possible the ink with in the tube has become unprimed, example not push up to the exit point so its drawing air and never gets caught up before the error occurs. Be careful by pushing plunger inside tube due to the ink becoming "separated" from the oil and be to "liquid" for the ink pump to do its job..If it pours out like wine its to old sry.Should be as thick as toothpaste.

Be aware that not all people would agree with my explanations ...
All inks for duplicators are nearly the same and therefore they are mostly interchangeable. Have a look at the DPI the ink is made for. Lower resolution ink may have bigger pigments and these may become stuck in the mesh of drum or the master. At least you have to fill the ink in an original bottle to use it. Avoid air bubbles!
Please weigh the risks before you continue. Techical difficulties may apply. So only courageous people should use foreign ink. - I have done often and my risographs still work very well!

Error code A-06-403 on the Riso RZ390 - what does it mean?


A06-403 from the manual: either the upper or lower safety switch of the paper feed tray is off. Unplug/replug or replace.

Any procedure to change drum in riso ks800


open the front casing of the machine 6 screws. then pull of the power supply, also the the main board of the machines then, at the back of the machines, open the case and pull out the harnest that attached on drum. then unscrew the ink hub,, then unscrew the drum from the chasis , dont forget the harnest of the position A, to pull out.

Error Code -534 on my Riso RZ 390. Drum is stuck in machine and won't release.


D04-534 means incorrect ink cartridge set. This could be caused either a) it IS the incorrect ink cartridge, or b) the RF tag that is struck to the end of the ink bottle is damaged. Try a new ink bottle.
Make sure to use RISO ink designed and made specific for an RZ230.
