1 Answer

FX3700 Keeps rebooting PC or not giving any display after putting Win7 ultimate x64 upgrade to Vista X64. Replaced with previous card FX1400 then PC boots normally. What do I do with FX3700 as its expensive card? HP xw8600 with twin X5492 processors.

Hi mike_sand513

I would first make sure that your power supply will support this card.
The next thing that i would check is that the 6 pin auxillary power connector is connected to the back of your card. this would cause your black screen and booing issues. The 6 pin aux power connector will be black with 2 rows of 3 pins each. If you dont have a 6 pin aux connector from your power supply, you can purchase an adapter that will connect to a standard 4 pin white molex connector from your power supply.
I would recommend having at least a 450-500watt power supply. (if you are running SCSI hard drives, these are power hungry by themselves.)
This card by itself draws 78 watts, where your FX1400 only drew 42 watts

If this solves the booting problems, next step would be to upgrade your drivers.

To update drivers and get your FX3700 working properly.

1. Replace your FX1400 in your system. Boot and log in
download the drivers from the Nvidia site for your FX3700
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Save to your hard drive in a place you can easily find again.

2. Go to control panel >>> Programs >>> uninstall a program.
Look for the Nvidia Drivers or vendor drivers from your FX1400.
Uninstall.

3. go to device manager.
If your unfamiliar with how to get to device manager, easiest way is use the search programs and files feature from the start menu. type in
device manager.

4. look for the category Display Adapters.
Expand that category.
Your FX1400 will be listed in there but may show up as standard VGA display adapter. click on that listing however it shows up and press the delete key.

5. shut down your system. If you arent using an antistatic grounding strap, then best to discharge and static electricity by simply running your hand flat across the back of the power supply. best to not move your feet afterwards because this can build up static electricity very quickly. Unplug power cord
remove your FX1400 and install your FX3700.

6. plug power cord in and boot. you should get the message, new hardware found. Cancel all prompts that come up. if you are asked to restart your system say no.

7. find the downloaded drivers, launch the exe file.
go through all the prompts. Reboot.

This should get you booting properly, barring any BIOS issues. If you still cant get this to boot, then if you comment back in here, can help you further.

If i have helped you, please dont forget to rate

Windows vista

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask me" again and likewise the previous ratings.

To my knowledge, Vista x64 is just an x32 with 64 bit addressing. Some have reported that 64 bit on a Core 2 Duo isn't a very good idea with the extra speed gain of x64 over x86 being marginal for now. Offhand, you might be better off still with X32 at least for the time being.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
