Question about SmartDisk FireLite 80 GB Hard Drive
Unfortunately, you may have to use a data recovery software, if the software is unable to recover your data then possibly the drive has failed, it would need to be taken to a costly data recovery service to get your files back if you really value them and then the drive replaced with another one, If it does not function after it has been formatted, that would indicate that the drive is faulty. I personally use file scavenger http://www.quetek.com/prod02.htm you can take the demo / trial and do a scan on the drive with it, if it finds your files, then they can be recovered, if not, then don't pay for the program, it most likely can't recover anything and your drive might be faulty.
