Question about Nintendo Wii Console

1 Answer

I bought a Nintendo Wii off of a guy and I didn't realize when I did that it came with Hi-Def RCAs. My TV only has a standard RCA hookup. I was told that I could still use the Hi-Def RCAs but what colors go where? Red, Blue, Green (Hi-Def) goes where on the Red, Yellow, White (standard) hookup? Thanks for helping!

Those are not High Def RCAs.

The cables you received are called "component" when the picture is broken down to its component colors, red, green, and blue.

When compared to "composite" cables (RCA), the yellow is all the components in one, which is the video cable. The other red and white are audio.

Your component should be RGB, Red & White (audios)

What you need to do is buy a composite cable for the Wii, which shouldn't cost that much--usually under $10 bucks. Save the component cables for when you get a new TV since those are the more expensive of the two!

Use the available RCA connector that came with the system. Yellow, Red, White. Just like you would hook it up if you were going to play a game.

Plugged in my wii after several months of not using it, it work excellent when I unhooked it. Now the picture has no color and very faint

I would first check your cables. It seems as though the RCA cable could have a problem, OR if your using a standard def set up (Yellow=Video, Red/White=Audio) make sure the TV input is not set on component. Component input will be looking for an RGB input method. Try using another input, make sure the wires are plugged in the right location, and the input is set correctly. Hope this helps :)

N64 colors do not work when hooked up to Vizio TV.

You probably have the RCAs in the component video hookups. Its easy to confuse them as they are similar ports. They are usually red, blue, and green. Look for the yellow, white, and red hookups. Those are for RCA connections as they don't work in the component hookups for HD video. i.e. blue-ray, PS3 That will cause the video to look grey and grainy.

What king of hookups do you have for the wii? Component? a/v? If they are red white and yellow and are hooked up to tv, some tvs have multiple a/v hookups. Be sure you're on the right channel

When I turn on my wii all I get is a black screen. The Wii is on but the main menu wont come up and I cant see anything.

Make sure the your RCA (Red/Yellow/White) cables are connected into standard input RCA slots on your TV. If they are connected to the HD RCA slots or the the standard output slots on your TV this problem may occur.
