This mp3 player didn't come with a users guide and nothing I seem to do works. It's a memorex model mmp8568-spt. Any advice would be appreciated!!

  • Dave61 Mar 21, 2008

I had the same problem until I downloaded Windows Media Player 10, it requires WMP10 or higher to see the unit.

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2008

I have no user guide, but was able to get mine to work. Has anyone found a guide on-line?

  • azciveng Apr 01, 2008

I've got the same problem (It's a memorex model mmp8568-spt). There isn't anything on the Memorex website for this model (http://www.memorexelectronics.com/html/d...) My PC doesn't detect the unit and there are no drivers available. Any ideas?

The little CD has the manual on it (e.g., "D:\user_guide.pdf"). If you are using Firefox as your default browser, then it won't open the link, as it protects against linking to local files (it's considered a security "feature").
[See: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84128]

Anyway, by default, it looks like the device mounts as MTP when you connect via USB (media transfer protocol).
[See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol]

I found that if you hold down the Play/Pause button while connected via USB, it will change to mounting as USB Mass Storage Device Class (USB MSC).
[See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_mass_storage_device_class]

This will make the media player look like another USB flash drive, and let you see it as a removable disk drive (e.g., "F:")

From there, I see:
F:\MUSIC
F:\PICTURES
F:\PLAYLIST
F:\VIDEO

And, Windows Media Player also sees the files.

Simply drag-n-drop to the directory (e.g., using Explorer) to add/remove files from the MP3 player.

Also on the mini-CD was MP3 Player Utilities 5.10, which includes the Video Converter application ... haven't tried it yet.

So far, for $35, it seems like an okay MP3 player (Target clearance).

Hi, I'm just trying to open the user's guide again, from the little cd that came with it. all of a sudden I can't get back there...it just links to the internet and just sits there with a blank screen.

I was able to open it more than once before so I don't know what's up with that.

anyway, mine did the same thing (computer did not recognize device), until I went to control panel, chose 'add hardware' and looked around for something likely, finally found 'M-Systems DiskOnChip 2000' and had the Windows wizard thing add that.

then it went nuts and started loading every song on my computer until I told it to stop. the songs (files) did load onto the device.
as for the manual, I guess you have to go to the CD everytime-very annoying.

hope this is helpful!

You can explore the mini cd in my computer there you can find the user's guide and make a copy of it,looks the same as 8565 model which you can download. using 8568 model with wmp 11 everything seems to be working fine

I found holding the middle button did change it into a usb storage device which made it drag and drop. Thanks

I purchased this model over at Target for cheap: It was around $35 when it should be $70. It was on clearance; I guess for a reason. It's an outdated model, made in China. But I'll get to the point.

The product DOES work, but with a lot of hiccups. You need to press down on its buttons hard but carefully.

You also need to format it (I did it from my computer) to get rid of the pre-loaded songs.

Finally, you need Windows Vista and Media Player 10 in order for it to work correctly. That goes for the disc that came with it as well. Don't "sync" it; treat it just like any other USB storage device / MP3 player.

Hi nicholasharp...

You did not say which model you had so I copied what I could find in manuals for Technika MP3 Players. I am sure you will find the user manual to explain when your MP3 player is fully charged.
I will also include the generic way to hook up and download songs to your MP3 player.
Go to the webpages below and download your User Manual and Quick Guide.

By default, it looks like the device mounts as MTP when you connect via USB (media transfer protocol).
[See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol]

There is a tutorial on the Memorex Electronics website:
[See http://memorexelectronics.com/html/downloads.php]

Look for "MMP8565 Digital audio player with 1GB flash memory"
And the "Product Tutorials" for a pop-up tutorial.
(Note: The MMP8568-HIT looks pretty close to MMP8565).

However, I found that if you hold down the Play/Pause button while connected via USB, it will change to mounting as USB Mass Storage Device Class (USB MSC).

I prefer this method, as I don't need to use Windows Media Player at all.

Pre-Loaded Songs

I realize this post is very old, so I'm commenting for posterity's sake. I don't have this particular model, but I had the same problem with my MMP8568. I couldn't delete pre-loaded tracks from WMP or manually from My Computer. The only thing that worked for me was reformatting my device and deleting everything off of it and starting over.

Basically, I went to My Computer and right-clicked on the icon corresponding to my MP3 player. I selected Format from the options and it deleted everything, from my own songs that I loaded to the pre-loaded content. Then, I resynched my music.

I tried EVERYTHING, and this was the only method that worked for me. :/
