Which capacitor? I've replaced several. Circuit id or location would help

  • Frank Feb 09, 2010

It is a samsung LNT 4032HX

I know you mean well, but I HAVE been in the electronics business for 20+ years, and know about CLEARLY visable "puffed" capacitors, and the ease of just changing the whole board. What I was after is a more pointed, recurrent problem that may have existed in this unit. As you know, there are often problems of this nature, and it can save hours of exploration if you can "pick" the brains of someone "smarter" than your self on a certain issue. YOU choose to answer my inquiry, but NONE of what you have said is any further than I was prior to posting my problem. Maybe you are just too used to end users posting problems.

    Thank's for you effort though..............Frank

Picture on an lcd Samsung tv goes out after on for awhile. Screen goes completely black. Sound is ok. Remote functions work fine. After unpluging set for a half hour, works normaly again for a short time. I have no schematics on this set, and am not sure if it's a backlight inverter problem or not. I would like to deal with a likely component problem, rather than "hit and miss" board changing.

Hi,

a ) Most likely power supply circuits, or a failed communication on the

circuits board.

b ) Possible causes can be from a resistor , to the low voltage

regulators on the SMPS ,

could also be from the feedback circuits

either in the horizontal deflection circuits ( if CRT type ) or " Power

Supply Unit " for the lamp if it is LCD , Plasma or LED type.

c ) Troubleshooting the unit , requires checking out the output

voltages of the power supply and check for possible bad capacitor .

d ) There are also instances that communication to the " Modules "

are failing thus triggering protection circuits or are activated.

e ) If you feel can work on the circuits , indicate the Model, Brand.

chassis number ( if available ) and the things you have done to

remedy the cause.

f ) It can also be caused by a cracked solder joints on the circuit Board,

around the flyback area ( if CRT type )

g ) Those are just possibilities there could be other causes , but try

those circuits first.

h ) Let me know if you need further assistance after you have started

probing around .( Only if you feel you can work on these circuits ).

Thanks for choosing Fixya for assistance!

    Servicing the unit requires a

    LNT 4032HX Service Manual

like these one , only with a fee

You may need to check for the Power Supply VS ( depends on the label on your unit )

it has a feedback circuits which cut off the supply in case , there is no detection on the

    Inverter Circuit.

    like these

    like your other output voltages

There are also possibilities that osc are blocked.

Hope you have checked voltages and checked for cold solder joints on the power supply.

If the power supply seems OK , then proceed to backlight circuits.

it could also be on the oscillator circuits / IC

Charging battery

Sometimes if charged too long or your not around when the light does go off, after awhile the battery looses its charge. when that happens the charger will start to charge again and it will seem that it isn't working right or charging. in your instruction booklet it should tell you how long it should take to charge. some say 45 min some say hours. set a timer once you find the time recommended for your device, once it goes off unplug if light is off. good luck

JVC LT47 that picture goes black (sound fine) after being on for awhile. Can turn TV off, then back on & it's fine. But then happens again about ever hour or so.

Hello
Hello
It is due to some loose soldering points [dry soldering we say it technically], in the power supply section of the TV. Just check for it. Check the solderings of all components, that will heat up to an extent when the TV works on. Repeated heating and cooling may make solderings to the terminals of that components to get loose. Just resolder all the suspected solder terminals, by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge short in between adjecent solder terminals. This must solve the problem to your tV. OK.

I have a Philips Plasma tv 42pf5321d/37 with sound but no picture

Thats the great sound of Exploding capacitors on either the power supply board. or another one in there. Now the set is in fault protection. It tried to warn you with the RED blinking LED that there was something amiss by shutting itself down. When you unplugged you reset the error and allowed it to do it again.

Best Regards and Smper Fi

Did you reset the hours on the lamp with the menu options on your set? Sometimes, if you do not do that it can mess with the tv performance thinking that its over hours. It needs to be reset to 0 again...
