Light cleaners aren't strong enough; wife's been using Goof-Off or a toluene -based cleaner and scrubbed the stains. Soot seems to be a bit greasy. Also, in addition to knowing how to get rid of stains, would like to know what's causing them.
    Thanks

I'm asking how to prevent the soot in the dryer from occurring; not how to remove it from the drum. I've been removing it successfully since it first started.

Soak Use the Soak cycle to remove small spots of set-in stains on fabrics. This cycle provides a soak time with warm or cold water followed by drain. Extra water, a short tumbling phase for equal distribution of the laundry, and a soaking time without basket movement improve the removal of set-in stains. Drain without spin assures gentle treatment even for delicate articles. click this link directly and check out page number 21 https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/eab852a13fbc842085256aa200643dd6/$FILE/Duet%20Job%20Aid.pdf also in the link its mentioned all the settings and trouble shooting for your washing machine. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Do you have the correct conversion kit for the type gas you are using?
You may need to open the air shutter on the burner if you are on propane gas. The dryer must have the correct burner for the type of gas in your home. Burner info is located on the rating plate in the door of your dryer.
They don't recommend a novice converting this dryer. Get your gas provider out there to check it out. DUET

The soot is being cause by the nasty yellow flames shooting out the burner because the air to gas ratio is wrong. That gas needs to come out that burner all nice and pretty blue. The soot is the unburned gas by products being slung out along with the into the heated air. LOL

Hello. To remove stains on your dryer's tumbler, apply spray cleaner, a mild abrasive, or laundry stain treatment to the affected area of the dryer tumbler and wipe with a damp cloth. Then dry a load of old towels or rags for about 30 minutes. These steps will remove the stain on your dryer's tumbler. Even if a mark remains on the dryer tumbler, the color won't transfer onto your clean laundry.
Regards, Joe

Hi,

Do you use Softner and Cold Water?

If Yes, these spots are caused by this ,softners and soap will not break down with cold water and flush out so it builds up under the tub and in the hoses.Get some stuff called washer magic and run a couple loads with hot water and no clothes. This will break it down and flush it out ,, use more hot water. This stuff shows for front loading washers but i have used it with top loaders too and it works really good

If Not, More often it is an Indication of Bad Transmission. Usually Transmissions do have 5 Years Warranty and if your washer is 7 - 10 years old ( which i assume as this usually is an indicate end of life for washers ), better to invest in new Washer.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Are you sure it is the dryer? Most staining occurs in the washer and it usually because of fabric softened. Either because you are using to much or you haven't clean the dispenser

My Whirlpool duet sport machine occasionally has "stained" laundry. I can't figure out what causes it since I don't wash colors and whites together. The stains appear to be blue. Could this be a fabric...

Make sure you are diluting the fabric softener before putting it into the dispenser drawer. Full strength softener will sometimes stain clothing that's why in the owners manual they always tell you to dilute it first before adding ,plus it last a lot longer and is just as affective... Hope tis helps

Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer: REDDISH BROWN STAINS FROM WHIRLPOOL GAS DRYER...

This is from not enough HOT loads.

Fatty deposits gather between the basket and tub during COLD washes.

Then they are being released in large numbers when you do your whites on HOT.

It is recommended to do 1 HOT load per week.

Do an empty load with some degreaser added (like Goo-Gone) on the fullest/hottest setting you have.

Gas dryer leaves black grease spots on clothes

the soot is coming from the flame at the gas heater box the drier needs to be converted to propane the flame is too large without the conversion kit installed and thus creates soot at the vent. contact a local repair place for this one it can be tricky.

My front loader gas Duet dryer has left brownish stains

Sounds like bad drum seals. Check all the way around the drum at the wall for sections of seals missing or an uneven gap around the drum at the wall.

Hope this helps.

Whirlpool Duet Washer/Dryer get brown streaks on clothing

The brown stains are likely coming from the felt drum seal. The OEM adhesive is tar based - and after time and use - breaks down.

You'll need a new felt seal - and the adhesive that is used should be silicone based... eliminating the brown streaks.
