There may not be enough power running to the display. What are you using for a power source? My suggestion is to wire your power to your ACC if you have not already. The other thing I can think of is the connection is bad. Make sure the terminals used to connect your stereo are all tight also.

I have a CDA 7892 alpine works great but would like the display to be brighter seems a bit dim manual does not say this model can be adjusted or am i missing it any help thanks in advance

You didn't specify if you wanted the display brighter in the daytime while headlights are off or if it is too dim when the headlights are on, with respect to the rest of the instrument panel illumination. Too bright is easier to deal with but too dim is tough. If it is always too dim under but daytime and night time conditions the only way to improve brightness would be to very gently disassemble the front panel (easier if it is the removable type) and determine what provides the back lighting. If there are tiny LEDS you could painstakingly add more LEDS or swap them out for brighter LEDS. There could be a lot of guesswork determining if this or that LED was brighter than what is in the unit as built. It may just be easier to live with it as-is.

Orange = Illumination

Some vehicles have an illumination signal that tells the stereo when your headlights are turned on so that it can dim the display (to help keep from being blinded by overly bright stereo displays at night). If you don't have that signal, don't connect the stereo wire to anything.

Illumination v. Dimmer

Good day,

The illum wire goes directly to the headlight switch and tells it when to light up, where as the dimmer wire is variable meaning it would dim up or down with your dash light control. Dimmmer is usually only need on factory radio's and not aftermarket. I suggest wiring only to the illuum lead and do not connect dim. Also about the clock make sure your red and yellow wires are not crossed, yellow is a constant hot and red is only hot when the ignition is on, so if they are backwards the radio would loose it's memory when you turn the key off.

Hope this helps

What is your power wired into? Are your head lights dim also? You may have a battery issue?

Dim Display

On newer stereos, you might have to experiment with the "panel" wire.

I just installed a VR3, and discovered that the more voltage on the "panel" wire, the dimmer the display.

With no connection, you get full (daytime) brightness. With full voltage, you blank the display.

I wired mine up to the car's instrument lights through a 10Kohm trim resistor so I could adjust the "night" intensity. But if I dim the car's instrument lights, the stereo gets brighter. Oops.

Older car -- I can't just flip a software bit. ;)

But I gather a lot of new stereos are like this. The display on my (factory) stereo in the Mitsu dims a fixed amount when the lights come on, but doesn't adjust with the car's instrument dimmer.

I THINK THE ILLUMINATION WIRE (ORANGE)AND THE IGNITION WIRE (RED) ARE CONNECTED TOGETHER. THE SOLUTION IS DISCONNET THE ORANGE WIRE YOU NOT REALLY NEED IT.

Lighting on deck

It could be the dimmer - Press and hold [MENU] (DIM) for more than 2 seconds to change dimmer level setting. I suppose you tried playing with the display button as well. Besides these, there's also a decent chance that either the display lamp is not getting power, or that it's out. That takes taking the thing apart, and you probably don't want to do that. Better take it to a repair shop in that case. Good luck
