Question about Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 Notebook

1 Answer

Toshiba m35x-s161 won't do anything...

I was using this lap top, and instead of the "customary" shutdown, I simply closed the lid. When I reopened it, the power light was still on, but the screen was dark, and nothing functions... I can't get it to turn off, or make any noises, or perform any functions. I finally took the battery out to force it to power down. I can turn it on, and the power light will light and stay on, but it makes no booting noises, and the screen is dark. The disc drive will not open, it's as though it's stuck in "sleeper" mode. Is it possible that the little switch that puts it in sleeper mode when you close the lap top could be bad, or stuck?

Can you access the bios if so reset to default and restart if you cant start up to as far as you can get then try a soft boot (ctl, alt, del all together at once) failing this you could try insert system disk and try to reboot and see if it try to install new copy.if you can get to any of these positions you can reset bios by unplugging and reconnecting rtc, this requires dismantling laptop,i may have service repair manual for your pc ,have to check

you dont need to dismantle rtc just remove battery(flat) that supplies its power for a few minutes then replace it ;(looks similar to a digital watch battery only bigger).this will factory reset bios on restart.

Clock does not retain correct time on toshiba lap top

On your motherboard you have what is called a CMOS battery(usually a-3V Lithium cell). It is what keeps your CMOS data and your clock intact when your pc is powered down. It has got a life span of about 3 years. So I suggest that yours should be replaced ok. If you cannot open your system unit to locate this battery, do call a technician. It's simply and straight forward. Good luck

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 that will not stay turned on for longer than 15 minutes.

Check power management - clean dust from fan - full system virus/spyware/registry scan. Place external fan to help internal fan.
