I have my MP500 direct connected to my Mac. When I scan a doc I have changed the settings to an 8 x 11 page, but when it scans, it only does the center of the document. I cannot get it to scan the whole thing
I was having the exact same problem -- very annoying!

Only one page per scan. But scan the desire doc and print it in the quantity you want. For the docs to be printed in PDF grab a copy of CutePDf that works as a printer driver. When you choose the doc in to printer you will choose CutePDF instead of your HP.

Adjusting Output (Scan) Resolution
By changing the resolution, you can set how clear the image is going to be. The higher the resolution, the clearer (but the larger) the scanned image is. The resolution can be changed before scanning.
(Note) If the resolution is doubled, the image data will be quadrupled. If the data is large, problems such as slow processing speed or lack of memory may occur. To change standard scan settings using MP Navigator, click here To change more advanced scan settings using the scanner driver, click here Using MP Navigator
Place the document face-down on the platen glass.
Launch MP Navigator.
On the Windows desktop, double-click the 'MP Navigator 2.0' icon.
in the Windows taskbar, click 'Start', click '(All) Programs', 'Canon
Utilities', 'MP Navigator 2.0' folder, then 'MP Navigator 2.0' icon.
Click 'Scan Photo/Document'.
Display varies according to the printer model.
When the Scan Photo/Document window is displayed, click 'Specify'.
Display varies according to the printer model.
When the Scan Settings window is displayed, select the resolution in Scanning Resolution drop-down.
Select from the following scanning resolutions: [Text(OCR)]: 300/400/600 Other: 75/100/150/200/300/400/600
If necessary, set other items as well.
In the Scan Photo/Document window, click 'Scan' to start scanning.
How are you connecting the all-in-one to the computer? Do you have the full-feature drivers/software loaded? (If you use a USB hub, try being directly connected to the computer. The buttons are sensitive to any intermediate connection that might block bi-directional communication.) Can you scan from the software on the computer? Check the cables and ports.
Once you scan the document, you need to run the OCR software to convert it to a document format for your word processor. (HP sent a version of the I.R.I.S. OCR software on the included software disc.) HP recommends using WordPad (which comes Windows) as a intermediate before going to a full-featured Word Processor.
the reason for this is the windows xp or vista operating environment, installed basic legacy support for your device. allowing only normal level functions. higher level functions require the software's api calls to be installed threw their software. you can get them at
Hi there. It sounds like you are not correctly setting up your page for scanning. Are you just putting the page in and hitting scan or are you going through the scan "wizard?" You need to let the scanner know what you are printing (color pic, black and white pic, text doc, etc.) and how big it is. Let me know what happens.
I was very frustrated by this problem too, but just found a fix at last!!
Instead of focussing on the settings on the scanner itself. Use the MP navigator software to change scan settings and get around this problem. there you can set document size, colour or black and white and even DPI (quality) .
Are you working wireless? Connect directly by cable and you can work in two directions (printing is oneway and scanning too, but than the other way around. The last is only possible with cable connection)
In the control panel for the scanner, on the bottom left is a button labeled "Specify," where you can adjust how much of the page it scans. Sometimes it is "auto-detect," sometimes it is the size of a small photo, sometimes it is full page. You just have to set it to what you want. Usually auto-detect works, but sometimes it misses and only scans part of a full page, so you have to set it manually to full page.
