Question about MSI K8MM-V Motherboard

1 Answer

MSI K8MM-V - Usb on the front case work like usb1 and not usb2.

Usb front case work like usb1 and not usb2. I connected the cable from motherbord to the front panel, but when I connect a pen drive usb2 to the front slot, it doesn't work like usb2 but like usb1.
If I connect this pen drive to the rear slot, it works fine !

I am not sure about your reply.
My CPU is Sempron 2800+, do you think that I have to change my CPU ?

  • max7452 Mar 15, 2010

No, I solved so: all USB plugs to be used on MSI MB should have red (pins 1 & 2), white (pins 3 & 4), green (pins 5 & 6), black (pins 7 & 8). Pin 9 (key, no hole), pin 10 (hole, no wire).
I removed the last black wire and it fixed my problem !

I have had some pretty good luck using MSI motherboards.

If you follow this link, you will be able to download your drivers and owner's manual for your motherboard.

You'll find a picture in the manual with instructions for those front USB ports.

Tower top mounted USB portss

The cables from the front panel USB connectors have a key in them that will line up with the missing pin on the board's USB headers. Just line up the connectors and plug them onto the board. It doesn't matter if you use USB1 on the board for the plug marked USB1.

Abit Kg7-Lite motherboard USB2 pin Locations desperately needed!

Lay case down with the bottom in front of you. Looking straight down at the row nearest the case bottom reading right to left there will be two rows of four pins.

Reading right to left the row closets to the case bottom the first lead is vcc1, next usb1-, next usb1+ and grnd1.

Top row reading right to left is vcc2, next usb2-, next usb2+ and grnd2.

I just replaced bad caps on my kg7 and had to remove the motherboard for the repair so I just reinstalled my front case usb ports.

Help this helps.

Facing problem with usb of motorockr e8 ?

There are two type of portsin USB enabled PC one is Type USB1 & Second is Type USB2. USB2 is faster and is compatible with most new devices. most of the flash drives when attached to USB1 prompt a message to attach to USB2 port to work faster. I am using E6 & it works fine with my Laptop & Desktop. So plug the cable into a different USB.

USB2 Problem Windows thinks My card is USB1.1

what do you mean when you say that the 4 USB2 ports are all occupied?
when you say that there are 2 USB1 ports on the back of the case: are those ports connected to the motherboard at all?

what devices are you using to test your USB ports? is it possible that those are USB 1 devices?

Usb ports

Go into your Device Manager (you didn`t say which OS).
Under USB you should have something like Enhanced Host controller.
That is USB2.
If you haven`t got it, your on USB1.
Normally if you only have USB1, and you plug a USB2 capable
device in, you will be told `this device could perform faster`.
