It will be located on the motherboard. Every brand is different, and the location will vary, but when you look at the motherboard, you should see a round watch battery. That is the system battery that will power the bios ans system clock.

How to use bios jumper on xp motherboard

I can assume that you want to reset your BIOS. Locate the BIOS battery (metallic button-type battery) in your motherboard. Near the battery, locate a pair of jumper (small wire pole) that's labeled as somewhat like CLR BIOS. Short circuit the jumper for few seconds. Then restart your PC, this clear or reset the bios to its default settings. NOTE: do the short circuiting when your PC is OFF.
Good luck.

How do I Find, Identify & Replace Bios Battery on my C502US

hi,

The board on that laptop uses a traditional CR2032 battery. This battery you can find at almost any jewlers or electronics shop.
(ref)
You can see it in images such as this one or this one.

Now you knwo the battery type, and where in the board is located :)
As for how to access it I think this instructions (see step #13) are very similar for the C500 or given the physical similarities use the C300 instructions.

Hope this works,
Ed

Locating CMOS battery in dv2000us

first try resetting using software, here's the software to reset or retrieve BIOS passwords.

On an HP laptop, the internal battery is located directly under thekeyboard, which is not removable on all models, so i don't suggesttrying if you are not comfortable.

Hello,

Yes, You can change it yourself. The battery is located in the memory compartment on the bottom of the laptop. Do a search on Ebay for IBM 600e battery, they run about 3.00

Bios password

is there not a jumper on the motherboard to reset bios? you could also try to remove the bios battery (a watch-type battery located directly on the motherboard)

you can flash bios most commonly by downloading the bios update to a floppy, and then booting with the floppy in the drive, but if you do it wrong, the end result will be a very expensive paperweight, hence flashing bios should be a last resort...

Wagonburner,
If I understand correctly, you tried to install Win 2000 in order to work around the logon password for the Win. XP install on it, and didn't have a product key to complete the install? If so, you can just boot to an XP disk and reinstall XP, otherwise you'll need to come up with a product key for 2000 to complete it's install (you can pull a valid key from any box with a Win 2000 COA (certificate of authenticity) and that will allow you to complete the install, but may not allow you to register and update, but still may depending on the origin of the Key.
You may also want to check for a restore partition on the Hard Drive, as you may be able to restore the PC to it's original (shipped with) configuration that way also. Ok, I just re read your post and see in the title that it's an older laptop and probably won't have a restore partition, and possibly didn't even come with XP installed, so you may want to check with your Buddies Son and see if he has an OS Disk that you can use to put XP back on it also.
When you say that you removed the battery are you referring to the BIOS battery, or the laptop's?
I hope one of these suggestions helps, Good Luck.
