Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
The direction pad is not working
I'm no expert but i've done this several times. if you can dismantle the controller taking note of which screws go where and gently taking it apart so that you know how to put it back, the board where the direction pad rests on has, first rubber cross with carbon tips on the bottom touching the circuit board, and above this rubber thing is the plastic direction buttons which you actually press. try cleaning the board with cotton and solvent (i use alcohol) to gently get the black stuff and dust off the board.
but there are instances when the controller get so so used that the metal contacts actually get worn off. that's what happened to one of my controllers and unfortunately i have no answer to that particular problem.
