Hi,

These are few handling precautions for any external hard drive:

1)Go through the user manual if provided with the unit.

2)Do not unpack your external hard drive until you are ready to
install it.If you are ready to install it now go ahead and simply connect the usb cord to the external hard drive and then to the pc and wait for the pc to detect the hard drive and install the drivers.Once your pc installs the drivers your hard drive is ready to use.

3)Save all the packing materials in case you need to return your external hard drive.

4)Your warranty will be void if your returned drive is shipped in anything other than the original packaging or Freecom or approved materials.

5)Do not drop or jolt the drive.

6)Do not attempt to open the drive and service it yourself. Removing the cover may expose you to harmful electrical voltages and will void the warranty.

7)To allow proper ventilation, do not block the air slots on the underside and rear of the enclosure.

Thank you for using fixya.

My computer has found new hardware for my freecom external storag

It should automatically allocate a drive letter to it. Go to windows explorer and hit F5 to refresh the display and you should see a new drive letter with the name of FREECOM next to it.

Freecom Classic 500GB External HDD Power Problemo

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

Grab the solder gun and get started. No problem at all. Just replace the power button and your hard drive is perfect again. Only do this if you can have soldered anything previously. Try a matching button so that it may fix in the proper position.

Dont hesitate to comment if you have any other question.
Kindly rate me if i was helpful.

Waqar

My 250gb hard drive is not working

Assuming this external hard drie is powered via USB, you probably just need the drivers:

Freecom harddrive beeping

Had the same problem. Just checked with their tech support: regular beeping can mean that there is not enough power going through the unit. I tried another USB port on the back of the computer (ie one connected directly to MB) and it worked fine.

Secured and compressed jpgs will not open

Hello patsyzara

(01) 1st, for now (as a precaution against data loss), please, don't add or delete anything to or from that external HDD (hard disk drive)

(02) Just to make sure, the photos and not just a catalog of the photos were originally stored onto the external HDD, yes?

(03) Do you still have access to the computer where you originally had the external HDD connected at the time you encrypted the files (photos)?

Even if the protected files were on the same external HDD that you are using now, the protection software is possibly associated w/ the computer on which the files were fist stored.

(04) Please, tell us exactly what mechanism (the name of the software, etc) you used to originally encrypt these files.

(05) Did you recall if you used software that came w/ the external HDD to encrypt your files?

(06) Please, tell us the the following:

(A) The operating system that was installed on the previous computer you're referring to. (Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc.)

(B) The model number of your Freecom external HDD. (look for a sticker or any markings on the case).

(C) The name of the encryption software if you can remember.

(06) If you still have access to the original computer, connect the external hard disk to that computer and tell us if you can see the files again.

(07) If you can, decrypt the files and then transfer the external HDD to the new computer.

If you need assistance w/ ANY of these steps or have any questions at all, comments, observations, etc., please, post back here w/ them. We will continue to work w/ you on this issue until it is resolved or we reach an impasse.

Thank you
BJ @:)
