The paper jam is a common problem, you need not to replace to ink cart.
Check the plain paper inserted properly or there is no paper inside, Put power OFF and ON. Also some model needs to press OK or START key to remove the paper jam message after removing the jammed paper.
The problem mite be dirty rollers that feed the paper, try cleaning with alcohol or worn out replace. Problem is the paper roller is miss feeding not taking up the paper instead of hitting something in the machine paper jam.
When you removed the paper jam did the paper tear? mit have left piece of the orgnial document. Also open document feeder where you place the orginal check to see fot any problem. As for the cover does it look like something on the the door is broke, The actuator on the door Slab of plastic , that goes into a slot on the machine to accurate the door close sensor, if the sensor is not activated then the copier thinks the door is open even if it closed
its the problem of the rollers which pulls the papers they r worn out.I've seen this before repairing computers and asked about fax
machines while I am there. There are rollers that cling on to the paper and
move it through the machine. When the rollers are worn down they do not grip
the paper. For a short fix you can get something rough like sandpaper, brillo
pad, etc, and gently scratch the rollers to give them some traction. This will
temporarily solve your problem until you can get the rollers replaced.
