You can attempt to open the notebook up and see if the display plug is unplugged a bit. Unfortunately this will void your warranty.

If you disconnect all the cables except the power cable, is the screen still white? White is unusual as it is the presence of all colors. Thus the white is probably coming from the video source.
If possible connect to a different video source.

Dell monitor screen suddenly went white. Can it be fixed?

I have a strong suspicion that you have burned a capacitor or two on the monitor. You will need to bring this in to have it serviced as it will require the monitor to be opened up and new capacitors replaced/resoldered.

Attention autoconfig please wait -- this message keeps popping up in the monitor continuously. it also adjusts the contrast anf brightness some times automatically. please help

Sounds like the "auto config " is built in to your monitor. It selects screen sizing based on the resolution, sync timing, refresh rate, etc... that your video card is adjusting on the computer.

I would suggest you to try changing the resolution in Windows and see if still receive the alert.

For more information on Screen resolution and display on monitor, check the below Microsoft Help & How-To Articles:

1:
Change screen resolution :-
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Change-screen-resolution

2: Getting the best display on your monitor :-

3: Troubleshoot monitor and video card problems :-
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-monitor-and-video-card-problems

If it is doing it often and you are not changing screen resolution I would say the monitor itself might have issues. It's possible your display driver may be corrupted. I would suggest you to download and install the latest drivers for the Monitor from the manufacturer's website.

For more information on Updating a Driver and fixing driver problems, check the below Microsoft Help & How-To Articles:
1: Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

2: Tips for fixing common driver problems
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-fixing-common-driver-problems

Check the plug and cable, look for bent pins or pins pushed in.
Are you using one of those DVI/VGA adapters? If your monitor has dual inputs (DVI & VGA) have you tried using the other input?

Anyway you could check if the issue exists when the monitor is connected to another PC? Or maybe try another monitor on your PC?

Screen is white when on.....

Try disconnecting your connection to your computer.
If you see a no signal message with a dark background, you have problems with your video card.
If you continue to recv. the white screen, you have input signal problems with the LCD monitor itself.

If you do recv. a no signal message witha dark background, try removing and reseating the video card.

I have had the same problem with my 991sb and most recently my 930sb. The first was replaced at NEC's expense however on this second one i'm out of luck. I think its a problem with its power inverter. It may be repairable by a tv repair place. I'll be looking into it and let you guys know.

What are normal things like text files and the desk top like? If it only photos that are problematical then it won't be the screen. Have a check around the system and a little think through- them come back

Assuming you've already checked your driver and system settings, tried a different monitor, and checked the cable and connector pins, this would almost certainly be a problem with the power or signal circuit board inside the monitor.
