Kelly, thank you so much for all of the good information. I am sure you are right about the lid switch. I have ordered one and will use your directions to install it. Thanks again.

Hi and welcome to Fixya. I am Kelly.

You did not mention a make or model number that certainly would help me in resolving your problem.

I am for the moment going to assume you have a top loading machine that has the transmission under the wash tub. On these models if you remove the back panel you will see a set of 2 solenoids that are rocking back and forth as the motor turns. Those solenoids control the operation of the machine to either agitate or spin. When one of them fails or the pin in the floating guyide shears it does not shift the pump into drain or slide the shifting rod to drop the spin tube onto the clutch assembly so the tub will spin.

If you provide a make and model number I can provide part numbers and probably diagrams of the failed part.

Thanks for using fixya and lets see what we can do to get your machine back to normal. Again Make and Model numbers please.

example i.e 110.XXX (long) but need all of the numbers

Hello again. I was able to cross the model number you gave.

Parts for you machine can be found here:

    http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir...

Enter your model number 11022702100 and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

At the end of the wash cycle there is a 90 second neutral drain period at which point the washer SHOULD be draining BEFORE the wash tub spins.

Lets start with a simple test of the lid switch.

As you just open or close the lid can you hear a switch click? (no click = no drain or spin)

If you hear a click do you hear any other associated sounds?

If you don't hear a click:

The Kenmore / Whirlpool top load uses a reversing motor to initiate the pump for draining and the transmission to spin.

If you cannot hear the motor trying to turn the pump, (but the washer will agitate) the problem points to the Timer, or the Lid Switch.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Upper Console and jumping the two "outermost pins" on the switch.

The following is a DETAILED description of how to release the console to gain access to the pins.

(You can hardly do anything to this machine without removing the cabinet)

In this case we are for the moment going to gain "upper console access" to just the lid switch

    http://www.american-appliance.com/catalo...

This is the actual lid switch: (note Sears has it backordered so I will post a different link below)

    http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir...

    Lid Switch available here:

    http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_d...

I really suspect the lid switch at this point because the drain pump is driven by the motor and from the symptoms your describing the motor is doing nothing when the timer reaches the spin cycle.

The lid switch most likely is not actuating when the lid is closed or the switch itself has failed. If you are able to bypass the switch in the steps above and get the machine to drain and spin then you know the switch is bad.

There is a very remote possibility that the timer is bad. I doubt the timer is the problem at this time.

    Kelly

Good Day,
Your washing machine is fully automatic?
the washing cycle is normal?
if yes do the same maybe it will help you.
for the fully automatic washing machine mostly have drain pump, please check the filter of your drain pump, how? remove the cup of your drain pump like a ordinary cup, screw it clock wise or counter clock wise.
Remove drain pump filter and clean it, some hair pins, cotton buds or coins or any small item that coz of clog up.
if your washing machine dont have drain pump ,but fully automatic check the drain motor if running or not? how? open the back cover for top loader washing machine only, select spin cycle and press start to see the drain motor running? the drain motor is like a small box with small wire to pull the lever of the drain to remove water inside, if the motor running or pull the lever of the water pipe but water still inside the washing machine, remove the drain cup or cover and clean it or check if have coin or cloth inside that coz of clog or water stuck,
if the drain pump or drain motor is weak this is will cause and long time draining or totally not running the drain pump or drain motor and its cause of totally stop the cycle of washing machine in rinse time or spin time, because all fully automatic washing machine, after washing cycle the drain pump or drain motor must be on, to remove water before start the next cycle. rinse or spin cycle.

Washing Machine is not draining in rinse cycle to go to spin cycl

you both seem to have bad lid switches. A bad lid switch will prevent draining and spinning.
