Hi Mrvica. What do you think it is. Circuit board? Maybe a sensor or some switch?

had a similar problem with a Thermador CVS36RB downdraft system. Problem turned out (1) to be the up/down switch which first failed in a way that caused the snorkle (the vent) to raise and lower continusously; and (2) the up/down switch then failed with an electrical pop and burning smell. One of the leads had completely burned out of the switch. Replaced switch (appliancepartspro.com) . All good.

Thermador CVS36R Cook'n'vent vent won't go down and fan stopped workin

You probably will find that the vent is clogged with grease. A switch device works with the vent so the fan operates only when the vent is open and does not operate when the vent is closed. Things should get back to normal after a thorough cleaning unless the fan is defective and won't operate at all.

My 7 1/2 year old Thermador CVS36RB Cook 'n' Vent won't retract

sears labor is 137 plus parts. that is something that would need to be looked at. it could be a few different things. if he is handy he can open it up to see if anything is misaligned or broken. the vent may even just be a little crooked and once straight may go up and down like normal

Cook 'n Vent Downdraft Up/Down Mechanism Replacing

just the switch should be replacable. My vent has a screw at each end (philips flatheads - accessible only when vent is up) just under the top cap. Removing the screws and cap should give you access to the switch. Just make sure you cut your breaker off first.

Thermador cook top with down draft ventalation

I would think you can. Most of the cooktops are 240v and the vents are 120v, so the vent may be feeding off of one of the cooktop's hot wires. My vent is fed from it's own receptacle but is harnessed along with the cooktop's 240v.
